Part of the cadre of L.A. musicians that included the Eagles, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt, Browne stood out as the spokesman for baby boomer angst. This low-key rocker sings in a plaintive tone, concentrating more on lyrics than melody. But his music is complicated and off the beaten-path of standard folk-rock songwriting, sometimes sounding like the soulful Van Morrison, especially on "Your Bright Baby Blues."The title track is a scornful indictment of middle-class America, while "Linda Paloma," led by a Latin beat and harp, is a dreamy South-Of-The-Border love song. Many tracks are just plain confessional and primal. "Daddy's Tune" deals with issues regarding his father ("...make room for my 45's along beside your 78's...nothing survives, but the way we live our lives...") and is a wonderful companion to "The Only Child," a love song to his child.Lost love is a common theme, and the nostalgic "Sleep's Dark And Silent Gate" ("...I don't know what love has to do with happiness...") is yet another deep reflection into his soul. Musically, "Here Come Those Tears Again" is one of the most accessible and well-rounded songs on the album, and this time the lost lover wants to come back. The album's 4th single "We Live For Love", although popular in it's own right, did not achieve the success of the prior single, but was still a noteworthy release. ....................... Management struggles and sundry other hindrances limited his output, but couldn't avert the Scot from releasing two legendary singles — the Tarantino-ized "Stuck in the Middle With You" and the unforgettable "Baker Street," the latter included on this record. Just a glimpse of John Patrick Byrne's cool cover art lets the listener know City to City houses Rafferty's day in the sun as he conquers the world one metropolis at a time, his guitar and amp in tow. Setting out in his apocalyptic "Ark," each song radiates the confidence of a master craftsman cruising in his prime, constructing brilliant pop confections with top-flight support while awaiting the crunch of civilization. The dreamy reality check "Baker Street" rightfully remains one of the greatest cuts in pop history. Forever-lost B-side "Big Change in Weather" further demonstrates Rafferty was on a rare roll. Management struggles and sundry other hindrances limited his output, but couldn't avert the Scot from releasing two legendary singles — the Tarantino-ized "Stuck in the Middle With You" and the unforgettable "Baker Street," the latter included on this record. Just a glimpse of John Patrick Byrne's cool cover art lets the listener know City to City houses Rafferty's day in the sun as he conquers the world one metropolis at a time, his guitar and amp in tow. Setting out in his apocalyptic "Ark," each song radiates the confidence of a master craftsman cruising in his prime, constructing brilliant pop confections with top-flight support while awaiting the crunch of civilization. The dreamy reality check "Baker Street" rightfully remains one of the greatest cuts in pop history. Forever-lost B-side "Big Change in Weather" further demonstrates Rafferty was on a rare roll. Das zweite, in dieser Serie produzierte Album, war Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon. ........... Es handelt sich hierbei um eine audiophile Rarität und eine der bestklingendsten Schallplatten die jemals hergestellt wurden. Das original Masterband welches zur Produktion dieses audiophilen Highlights zur Verfügung stand, war von exquisiter Qualität. Was dann die Spezialisten von MFSL daraus machten kann man nur als sensationell bezeichnen. Nie wieder wurde vermutlich solch ein Aufwand zur Herstellung einer LP betrieben (was vor über 20 Jahren für einen horrenden Preis sorgte). Sorgfältigst mit der Halfspeed Schneidetechnik geschnitten und in 140 Gramm Japan Virgin Vinyl gepresst wurden weltweit nur 50000 Exemplare hergestellt. MFSL Schallplatten wurden aus einem besonderen Kunststoff, mit der Bezeichnung „Japan Vinyl“ hergestellt. „Japan Vinyl“ wurde unter der Verwendung von hoch polimerisierten Kunstharzen, mit einem hohen Anteil an Vinylacetat gefertigt. Die Eigenschaften dieses Werkstoffs sind eine enorme Elastizität, extreme Strapazierfähigkeit und ein exzellenter Signal-Rauschabstand (signal-to-noise-ratio). It's a weary, drug-laden album -- well over half the songs explicitly mention drug use, while the others merely allude to it -- that never fades away, but barely keeps afloat. Apart from the classic opener, "Brown Sugar," the long workout "Can't You Hear Me Knocking," and the mean-spirited "Bitch," Sticky Fingers is a slow, bluesy affair, with a few country touches thrown in for good measure. The laid-back tone of the album gives ample room for new lead guitarist Mick Taylor to stretch out, particularly on the extended coda of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." But the key to the album isn't the instrumental interplay -- although that is terrific -- it's the soulfulness of the songs. "Wild Horses" is their first non-ironic stab at a country song, and it is a beautiful, heart-tugging masterpiece. Similarly, "I Got the Blues" is a ravished, late-night classic that ranks among their very best blues. "Sister Morphine" is a horrifying overdose tale, and "Moonlight Mile," with Paul Buckmaster's grandiose strings, is a perfect closure: sad, yearning, drug-addled, and beautiful.
