*************************************************************************************************** Behind the Scenes--The Moonlight Sessions--Bernie Grundman with Lyn Stanley Take a look behind the closed door of big name studio recording sessions with top talent, including recording engineer Al Schmitt, as jazz vocalist Lyn Stanley produces her 2017 releases The Moonlight Sessions--Volumes One and Two. "This classy lassie has been coming out of nowhere on the run since she...well, first started coming out of nowhere on the run. Upping her game with each successive release, here we find her firmly staking out her territory as the jazz diva of the times by surrounding herself with jazzbos who you would buy their own solo records, a song stack that is familiar but she gives a new swing to and a vocal style you will remember. This is a gal of the hour that will be much more than flavor of the month. Killer stuff throughout." — MidwestRecord.com "Wildly popular Southern California vocalist Lyn Stanley's new project ventures into new musical territory with her creative approach to American music. This time, she's borrowing from the classical composers — Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, Mozart, and Ravel — to breathe a new excitement into a few jazz standards like you've never heard them before. This series begins with this Volume One. She has also added songs to this special project from the country and pop genres and added arrangement twists with jazz applications that modernize them as they delight your ears. Lyn delivers every song with the finesse and confidence of a veteran song stylist - and she is only a few years into her vocal career. "The ensemble is Lyn Stanley, vocals, Mike Garson, piano, Christian Jacob, piano, Tamir Hendelman, piano, Chuck Berghofer, bass, Ray Brinker, drums, Bernie Dresel, drums, Joe LaBarbara, drums, Luis Conte, percussion, John Chiodini, guitar, Chuck Findley, trumpet, Rickey Woodard, tenor saxophone, Bob McChesney, trombone, and Hendrik Meurkens, harmonica. "The lady steams with talent and surrounds herself with the very best musicians and arrangers in the business. A total Winner!" — Grady Harp, Amazon.com Jazz vocalist Lyn Stanley announces her BEST project to date, The Moonlight Sessions! Sure to please — every song is crafted with an unusual twist to the arrangements — the musical interpretations and the songs are meant to bring you to a new understanding of the American Songbook and pop tunes turned to jazz in her arrangements. The stellar cast of musicians and engineering team matches the quality and detail put into every aspect of this project's two album releases in 2017: Volume One and Two. The songs include hybrid classical romantic compositions with jazz standards on some of the song selections. Chopin is combined with Jobim, you'll hear quotes from Ravel, Mozart, Beethoven and Debussy with American Songbook jazz classics. Lyn brings her unusual creativity in music arrangements to add a new excitement to old standards. "Does the release of Lyn Stanley’s latest album, her fifth since 2013, warrant a full page of coverage in this magazine? I think it does, as Stanley is one of us. She recognizes the importance of good sound to advancing a musical message and spares no expense to achieve this end. " - Andrew Quint, The Absolute Sound, December 2017 Read the entire review! You will hear Chopin, Ravel, Beethoven, Debussy and Mozart references to breathe a new excitement into a few jazz standards like you've never heard them before! Critics are raving about this project and the #1 Jazz radio station in the USA, KKjz proclaims Lyn to be one of the "most outstanding" vocalists in jazz, calling the project "Brilliant!" "Hot on the heels of her late-spring release of the well-reviewed The Moonlight Sessions, Volume One, Southern California songstress Lyn Stanley issues her fifth recording, The Moonlight Sessions, Volume Two. The award-winning, internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist once again demonstrates her gift for mining classic material and making it her own. Stanley takes listeners on a delightful sonic journey, from her unique takes on familiar tunes including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “The Very Thought of You” to her sensitive approach to too-seldom heard gems like “That Old Feeling” and “Smile.” Stanley ventures beyond the Great American Songbook to turn her tasteful eye—and voice!—to popular songs from the mid-’70s such as “At Seventeen” and “The Summer Knows” (from the film The Summer of ’42)." "Highlights from The Moonlight Sessions, Volume Two include: “How Deep is the Ocean”: Stanley shows off her range on this tune, which opens with a tender vocal-piano duet before giving way to a cool, “All Blues”-flavored swinger with some very tasty trombone from Bob McChesney. “I’ll Be Seeing You”: Rich strings and understated guitar combine, with Stanley’s voice floating lusciously on top. “Since I Fell for You”: From the rarely heard verse to the final note, Stanley delivers the lyric with a persuasive ache. Rickey Woodard’s bluesy saxophone offers a brilliant contrast with her velvety voice. “Makin’ Whoopee”: Stanley lives up to her sultry reputation, bringing a leisurely tension to this long-time fave. “At Seventeen”: Check out the bittersweet world-weariness and sophistication of Stanley’s take on Janis Ian’s #1 hit single from 1975." "Joining Stanley on The Moonlight Sessions, Volume Two is a top-flight band of in-demand players, including pianists Mike Garson, Christian Jacob and Tamir Hendelman; bassist Chuck Berghofer; drummers Ray Brinker, Bernie Dresel and Joe LaBarbara; percussionist Luis Conte; guitarist John Chiodini; trumpeter Chuck Findley; saxophonist Rickey Woodard; trombonist Bob McChesney; harmonica wizard Hendrik Meurkens; and harpists Corky Hale and Carol Robins; strings: Budapest SSO. Stellar recording quality makes The Moonlight Sessions, Volume Two an audiophile’s delight, and the creative arrangements will appeal to casual listeners and engage hard-core jazz aficionados. With two entertaining top-quality releases under her belt in 2017 alone, Lyn Stanley’s long-time fans and recent followers will look forward to discovering what fascinating new projects the singer has next on her agenda." She has also added songs to this special project from the country and pop genres and added arrangement twists with jazz applications that modernize them as they delight your ears. On board for The Moonlight Sessions are her stellar cast of musicians. Piano: Mike Garson, Christian Jacob and Tamir Hendelman; Bass: Chuck Berghofer; Drums: Joe La Barbara, Ray Brinker and Bernie Dresel; Jazz Guitar: John Chiodini; Percussion: Luis Conte; Harmonica: Hendrik Meurkens; Harp: Corky Hale, Carol Robins; Trumpet: Chuck Findley; Trombone: Bob McChesney; Tenor Sax: Rickey Woodard are all on board and recorded. This project’s arrangers include, Mike Garson, Christian Jacob, Tamir Hendelman, John Chiodini, Steve Rawlins and Doug Walter. "Does the release of Lyn Stanley's latest album, her fifth since 2013, warrant a full page of coverage in this magazine? I think it does, as Stanley is one of us... She's meticulous in her technical execution but takes chances artistically, which is a recipe for enduring success." - Andrew Quint, The Absolute Sound, December 2017 "High End 2017: Lyn Stanley amazes with her lacquers! I spoke with Lyn Stanley before the show, she was gentle enough as to tip me about this event, she would be playing lacquers in the EAR Yoshino room with legendary designer Tim de Paravicini. The system consisted of EAR top of the line electronics paired with Rockport speakers and Tim’s turntable with a My Sonic Lab MC cartridge. Lyn and Tim went through the details, explaining how difficult and expensive is to produce a one step vinyl record, omitting several passages (mother copy and stampers) in the pressing chain, thus keeping the sound as close as possible to the master lacquer and the recording itself. Add that to a superb production with nothing but analog equipment used throughout the recording and mastering process and with nothing but the best musicians out there (with names such as Mike Garson and Rickey Woodard to name a few) and you have one hell of a record with Lyn singing classics like "My Funny Valentine" and "Crazy."" - Panagiotis Karavitis, Part-Time Audiophile "LYN STANLEY/Moonlight Sessions V.1: This classy lassie has been coming out of nowhere on the run since she...well, first started coming out of nowhere on the run. Killer stuff throughout." - Chris Spector, midwestrecord.com, Read More! "AXPONA 2017: Lee’s Best of Show: Best Music. Three-way tie. 1. Intervention Records‘ new Flying Burrito Brothers LP. Shane Buettner and Kevin Gray simply don’t know how to do bad work. 2. Lyn Stanley‘s Moonlight Sessions: Volume One. Sounded so natural on the Ultra 11s. Of course, Bernie Grundman was involved on the mastering side and Lyn always has the best musicians and producers. 3. MA Recordings‘ Todd Garfinkle is now pressing LPs of his stellar recordings. Sera Una Noche and several other titles are available so far and we analog fans are richer for it." - Lee Scoggins, Part-Time Audiophile "Lyn, I have seen you evolve from a very good vocalist to now among the most outstanding. I have to select airplay based on the content, not how much I admire the singer. In this case, you are so outstanding that admiration for your efforts makes it easy to provide you to get top billing on the station. The choice of selections and the arrangements plus your singing are marvelous - For all future releases please send to my attention, and have someone verify the CD was sent to me. As one who has the honor of programming the world's No. One Jazz station, I am pleased that we have such great product to perform." - Saul Levine, KKjz, Mt. Wilson Broadcasting "Jazz singer Lyn Stanley, whose three albums are prized by audiophiles for their pristine sound, is determined to achieve an even higher level of resolution on her next project. Stanley plans to have a very limited number of vinyl copies of her upcoming “Moonlight Sessions” releases made using the “one-step process.” The manufacturing technique promises to put listeners closer to the sound heard in the studio... The singer is calling her version of one-step “SuperSonicVinyl.” Each album will be spread across two 180-gram, 45-rpm discs. “The sound quality is going to blow everyone away,” Stanley said." - John Stancavage, Part-Time Audiophile Read more! This one-step pressing process was used often during the early days of vinyl record manufacturing. But when mass vinyl production was needed, the manufacturers had to create more cost effective means to make vinyl copies. To make a vinyl record, you need a "Negative Source" to imprint the vinyl grooves. The industry standard today is a THREE-step lacquer process designed to create the largest number of records from one lacquer (they are expensive to create). To do this three steps are required–from the lacquer (positive source) STEP ONE: make a "Father" (a negative source), STEP TWO: create a Mother from the Father (positive source) and then STEP THREE: create "Stampers" (negative source) from the "Mother." This way the "Father" does not get used very often and is the most preserved “negative source.” However, the record you listen to is three steps removed from the original mastered lacquer and can grab hissing, or subtile glitches that affect the sound recording on your system. The ONE-Step method takes the “Father” from the original lacquer and that is what will create your vinyl record. Some “Fathers” only last for 100 pressings, others have gone to 1000. It depends on the processing and original lacquer quality. Once the Father is no longer able to make a great recording, it must be destroyed and no other albums can be created from that original lacquer. Lyn Stanley's SupersonicVinyl™ is a superior quality vinyl record utilizing advanced recording techniques captured with analog mixed and mastered quality tape-recorded and mastered by award-winning engineers in state-of the art studios. Then they hire One-Step experienced 'audiophile quality' pressing plants to create what is believed to be "simply the best recordings' available today. "Six years ago, Lyn Stanley was a retired marketing executive wondering if she could pass muster for her church choir. Today, she’s an internationally known jazz vocalist whose award-winning audiophile recordings feature A-list musicians, producers and engineers. While Stanley has carved a niche in the high-end world, her albums go far beyond clinical speaker-testing tools. They practically ooze a lush, emotional atmosphere that only happens on those rare occasions when great players are allowed to stretch out in a relaxed, inspired setting." "Stanley is now working on her next project, a two-album set she’s calling “The Moonlight Sessions.” Being the restless spirit she is, Stanley has carefully devised an ambitious plan to break some new musical ground. “I’m going to combine jazz standards with classical music,” she explained. “For instance, we’re going to do (Antonio Carlos) Jobim’s “How Insensitive” merged with Chopin’s “Prelude in E Minor.” It may be hard to wrap your head around that concept, but a demo I heard from rehearsals sounded sublime." - John Stancavage, Part-Time Audiophile Read more! Inklusive 20seitigem, farbigem Booklet. Handsigniert und limitiert und nummeriert auf 500 Stück. ************************************************************************************************* *** Gatefold Cover Auf ihrem sechsten Album, »London Calling«, vollführt Jazz-Sängerin Lyn Stanley eine formvollendete Verneigung vor einem ihrer großen Vorbilder: Julie London. Music: This album has band created arrangements as it was done in the 1960s. Chuck Berghofer, playing bass on this album, played for Julie London's gigs in his early career. There is a bass/vocal duet in this album celebrating this connection. In keeping with London's preference for guitar/bass/vocal accompaniment, two songs are presented: Cry Me A River and Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye. Featuredguitarist, John Chiodini, played seven years with Peggy Lee and is on the Natalie Cole's "Unforgetable" album. Im folgenden 2 der vielen positiven Kritikermeinungen: “However you hear it, Ms. Stanley and the album are welcome throwbacks to the era of high concept album-making and gutsy, on-mic performance purity. … she’s 100 percent in her element to navigate a perfect landing on this impressive in every way debut. … You will not hear a more naturally recorded female voice than you’ll hear on the record. … Lost In Romance is one album where the outstanding sound is matched by the music making.” Music = 9/11; Sound = 11/11 Michael Fremer, AnalogPlanet.com. To read Fremer’s full review, click here: http://www.analogplanet.com/content/lyn-stanley-serves-standards-sang-superbly “That’s just plain ‘Wow, Wow, Wow.’ How brave you are to undertake these tunes. … We get a lot of first-time albums with new artists, some of them pretty promising, but once in a blue moon you get the perfect package. Great singer, great arrangements, great tunes — and that’s what it is with Lyn Stanley and her debut LP, Lost in Romance.” — Gregg Hunter, Niteside ******************************************************************************************* Lyn Stanley: Lost In Romance A hardened cynic might presume that the song royalty beneficiaries of the estates of Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, George and Ira Gershwin and other song giants would mercenarily welcome yet another Great American Songbook-rich recording by a female vocalist. However, when those warhorse ("wornhorse?") compositions—and a few shrewdly selected other ones—are sent up tails-and-gowns stylish as they are in this auspicious debut recording, our cynical friend would be somewhat inaccurate in that presumption. With Lost in Romance, Lyn Stanley establishes herself as a fine interpreter of lyric gold and platinum melody. A champion ballroom dancer, Stanley has an inviting alto voice, great rhythmic nuance, and an obvious respect for the vaunted material she covers. And, as any great dancer or singer would, her rhythmic and melodic vocal movements are expressed with an obvious ease of delivery and flair. The "romantically lost" Stanley, who's quite present in a musical sense, performs 15 selections delivered straightforwardly in both form and interpretation. In addition to Songbook standards ("The Nearness of You," "You Go to My Head"), Stanley adds Broadway and pop selections (Stephen Sondheim's "Losing My Mind" and George Harrison's "Something"), as well as stretching her soul wings ("I Just Want to Make Love to You," "What Am I Gonna Do With A Bad Boy Like You?"). On those selections, she demonstrates that she can belt as well as caress. The world-class rhythm sections and supporting guest soloists are formidable in keeping things elegant, classy and stylish throughout. ADVERTISEMENT As fine a production as this is, Stanley exhibits a very slight—but noticeable—sense of caution in a rare spot or two. That's understandable, perhaps, given the nature of the material, the talent that surrounds her and the fact that this is recording Number One. That notwithstanding, while the gorgeous cover shot depicts Stanley gazing off into the night looking somewhat forlorn and lost, Lost in Romance is an admirable and enjoyable effort where a very talented singer can indeed be found. Track Listing: Change Partners; Watch What Happens; Fever; That Old Black Magic; Nearness of You; You Go to My Head; I Just Wanna Make Love to You; My Foolish Heart; What Am I Gonna Do With A Bad Boy Like You?; Losing My Mind; One For My Baby; Sugar On The Floor; Too Close for Comfort; Something; The Last Dance. Lost In Romance is one album where the outstanding sound is matched by the music making. This critically acclaimed LP, gaining international radio airplay, brings the Songstress back to jazz. Lyn Stanley captures the old Hollywood glamour with her beautiful sultry voice and exciting arrangements set to the great American Songbook--these elements were honored by the jazz affection a dos of the 40's and 50's. This album has been awarded top scores by audiophile critics including Michael Fremer's 11/11 for sonics, HiFi News UK Album of Choice for May 2014, AudioArt Album of the Month August 2014 issue and Encore's Best of 2013 albums by Don Grigware. Stanley steps it up a notch with her background as a ballroom dancer with rhythms and tempos that will have your fingers tapping and feet moving. Lost in Romance is a unique album that combines 13 of Los Angeles’ best jazz musicians performing in four different trios along with soloists. The album is organized as a tale of love’s ins-and-outs, joys and disappointments—in a sequence that is best appreciated when heard in order. The songs include traditional Great American songbook tunes, but also step into blues and Broadway show songs—including Stephen Sondheim’s Losing My Mind and Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want To Make Love To You.” Tamir Hendelman, Llew Matthews, Steve Rawlins, plus Jim DeJulio and Lyn (on two songs) wrote the album’s arrangements. Musicians on the album include: (piano) Tamir Hendelman, Mike Lang, Llew Matthews; (bass) Trey Henry, Kevin Axt, Jim DeJulio; (drums) Jeff Hamilton, Bernie Dresel, Paul Kreibich. Soloists include: Gilbert Castellanos (trumpet/flugel horn), Bob Sheppard (tenor sax), Bob McChesney (trombone) and Thom Rotella (guitar). Radio Gurus have this to say about the album: "STANLEY MATTERS Speaking of music, here comes Lyn Stanley, a blond right out of an old movie with Humphrey Bogart. She’s a dancer, too. And this new LP is fantastic. Great musicians behind a beautiful voice with such songs as “Fever,” “That Old Black Magic,” and “Change Partners.” You’re going to love every tune on “Lost In Romance.” Promoted by legendary Don Graham. Need I say more? Every song on this album would fit on any adult contemporary and jazz radio station in the world! Loved the crispness of the sound, the distinct quality of the voice, the phrasing bringing some excitement to the words. Madame Lyn, you’re great! You put something into a song."—Claude Hall, The Dean of Radio Writers and author of Billboard’s famous Vox-Jox. "I have been noting all the fuss about Lyn Stanley. So I decided to carefully review her Album "Lost In Romance.” Now I am a booster. I hate to date myself but I have been programming Jazz for eons. And I am impressed. A couple of the tracks we have already by Sinatra. But I am adding Stanley's anyway, and Frank better watch out. And, I am pleased to report that very soon I am bringing cool Jazz Radio back to Monterey, and Stanley's songs will be on it. (Last week, we brought Classical Radio back to Monterey after it had been dropped by another station). I think Stanley could even do an album on Puccini and it would be great." Regards, “To have a chance to play you is a privilege that I want to share with my audience. Thank you for bringing the Songstress back to jazz. Your voice brings life to lyrics that defined the American Songbook. Your natural class, grace and tonality will bring much joy to jazz radio. You are one of a kind and We Love You Madly. Why? Because the song comes back to life through your voice.” --Los Angeles Jazz celebrity DJ Bubba Jackson I love the great sounds of Lyn Stanley. I really enjoy her “Lost In Romance LP.” All the songs are FANTASTIC!!—GARY OWENS, LEGENDARY TV AND RADIO HOST ************************************************************************************

Musiker: Kenny Werner, Bill Cunliffe, Mike Lang - Klavier / Orgel Johannes Weidermüller und Mike Valerio - Bass Joe La Barbera, Ari Hoenig, John Robinson - Schlagzeug Solokünstler: Glen Drewes (Trompete / Flügelhorn), Thom Rotella (Gitarre), Rickey Woodard (Tenor-Saxophon), Tom Rainer (Klarinette) und Luis Conte (Perkussion) Product Information All tracks for this double LP 45rpm album were mixed and mastered in analog tape. Two of the 15 tracks are original ProTools recordings, one tracks is an analog / ProTools hybrid, and the other 12 tracks are pure analog tape. The musicians are stellar and the music is jazz reinvented in some Pop tunes of the '50s along with wonderful arrangements of jazz standard composed in the same decade – including »Cry Me A River«.– Known for her lush low notes, beautiful intonation, rich interpretations and phrasing, Lyn has been described by Scott Yanow as a »superior singer« and Don Heckman stated she »..is a potentially significant new [jazz] talent.« Rezensionen »Lyn Stanley benutzte dasselbe Neumann-47-Mikro, in das Frank Sinatra und Nat King Cole auch schon gesungen hatten. Lyn Stanley selected as one of 40 semi-finalists in the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Chosen from a worldwide field of 500 female vocalists! Jazz singing phenomenon Lyn Stanley returns with a follow-up to her smash audiophile triumph Lost In Romance — a brilliant new collection of classics of the 1950s titled Potions. Potions draws from a broad palette of jazz, popular hits, blues, country, R&B and doo-wop (and one very special Gershiwn classic "The Man I Love" in a bonus track). "There were so many changes in jazz and pop tunes, while the introduction of rock 'n' roll happened in the 1950s," Stanley says. "As I began my journey of deciding which songs to include on this album, it was clear that the choices were way too many so I decided to let my heart guide me. It was a feeling thing." Stanley says many of these songs need hearts with "'worn tires' to get to where I think the composers intended. I also wanted to celebrate the 'Retro Jazz' effort of the era where swing was again 'hip.'" Stanley, a unique sultry jazz vocalist from the Los Angeles area, became an instant international success with her debut standards album, Lost In Romance, released Aug. 27, 2013, selling 7,000 copies worldwide to date. The album received several accolades in the hi fi world of audiophiles including Album of Choice, Best of 2013 Albums, No. 6/100 Top Vinyl Albums the highest rated by Chinese reviewer, Jack Lui in his 2014 book, "All About Vinyl" and awarded Top Rated Album by AnalogPlanet.com — "a must-have album for any audiophile collector" by renown international critic, Michael Fremer, who calls Stanley the "Chanteuse Extraordinaire." Stanley in October 2014 was named one of 40 semifinalists in the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. There were more than 500 female vocalists who entered from around the world. The award honors the "divine" jazz icon, who herself was the winner of an amateur singing contest at the legendary Apollo Theater when she was a teenager. To honor Vaughan's legacy the New Jersey Performing Arts Center holds a worldwide talent search culminating with an exciting concert in the Victoria Theater. Also a former USA amateur ballroom dance Pro/Am champion, Stanley's unique voice has been described as "beautiful," "rich in low tones," with "phrasing and storytelling that makes her music very personal." Her dancing background adds a special feel that few artists can deliver. L.A. jazz radio personality Bubba Jackson describes her as "the real deal — she has brought the songstress back to jazz!" Stanley was discovered by world-class jazz legend, pianist Paul Smith, best known as Ella Fitzgerald's accompanist/conductor. For Potions, Stanley decided to take the ultimate leap into analog recording by tackling a new album with a 1950s theme — an era when analog was king — and securing a world-class team to record and manufacture the album. Stanley hired renowned jazz pianist/composer and producer Kenny Werner to produce Potions. Werner, Bill Cunliffe, Mike Lang, Steve Rawlins, Tamir Hendelman and Lyn herself were arrangers for the project, defining the album concept and song selections. Al Schmitt was the recording and mixing engineer; the album was mastered by Bernie Grundman. The recording venues included Hollywood's legendary Capitol Recording Studios (Studio A — musician tracking and some vocals, Studio B — percussion and some vocals), and Avatar Recording Studio C in New York, where Stanley recorded with Werner and his musician trio. The vocalist microphone used in Los Angeles and NYC tracking for vocals was a Neumann U47, and the vocals recorded at Capitol were with the same Neumann U47 used by Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. The album contains 15 tracks, 12 of which are pure analog tape original recordings from start to finish, through the musicians/vocals, mixing and mastering. Two tracks — "In The Still Of The Night" and "The Party's Over" — were recorded in PCM/ProTools (192/32) but the mixing and mastering were done on analog tape. One of the tracks — "Love Potion No. 9" is a hybrid — some of the musician tracks were recorded in analog and others in ProTools (192/32). Record Technology Incorporated (RTI) began the plating process of the initial mastered lacquers within two hours of their completion by Bernie Grundman. New stampers were used for every 300 albums pressed. The initial pressing for the 180-gram 45 RPM double album called for 1,500 units — 1,000 numbered and 500 non-numbered. The album will also be produced as a Hybrid SACD by Sony's DADC plant in Austria. All of the technological resources at hand cannot produce great music without great artistry — a quality in abundance on this remarkable recording. Remarkable musicianship, brilliant arrangements and inspired concepts for every song, coupled with Stanley's radiant vocal artistry, make her second album simply mesmerizing. Musicians: Kenny Werner, Bill Cunliffe, Mike Lang, piano/organ Johannes Weidermeuller and Mike Valerio, bass Joe La Barbera, Ari Hoenig, John Robinson, drums Soloists: Glen Drewes (trumpet/flugelhorn), Thom Rotella (guitar), Rickey Woodard (tenor saxophone), Tom Rainer (clarinet) and Luis Conte (percussion) **************************************************************************************************

Stanley, a unique sultry jazz vocalist from the Los Angeles area, became an instant international success with her debut standards album, Lost In Romance, released Aug.

Songs wie „More Than You Know“ oder „In A Sentimental Mood“ erstrahlen hier nicht nur Dank Lyn Stanley umwerfend samtiger Altstimme in glamourösem Glanz. A Fool To Want You“ direkt ins Ohr hauchen. Mit dabei sind Interpretationen von How Long Has This Been Going On, Just One Of Those Things, Black Velvet und sogar Led Zeppelins Whole Lotta Love. Hologram Numbered Special Edition & two-side full color insert! Lynn Stanley's Interludes and Potions: From The '50s included in AllAboutJazz.com's Best Releases of 2015! "... the sound, as absolutely stunning as it was on the first two albums, is up by a considerable margin — something I didn't think was possible. The stage is wide and deep; the instruments remarkably transparent and three-dimensionally solid. The great Al Schmitt engineered to tape at United and Steve Genewick did likewise at Capitol. Neumann U-47s — including Frank Sinatra's courtesy Capitol — captured Ms. Stanley's vocals. If ever you needed a reason why we must insure that great recording studios survive, with sessions helmed by the engineering greats, this album provides it." — Music = 9/11; Sound = 11/11 - Michael Fremer, AnalogPlanet.com. Read the whole review here. "'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' ... is lesser known but so unusual, and it is indeed featured on Interludes. I can only describe it as deliciously different and exotic-sounding that pulls you in. ... Other great highlights of the album include the opener 'How Long Has This Been Going On?', the infectious 'Just One of Those Things,' a captivating 'More Than You Know,' a deliriously appealing 'Nice 'n Easy' ... She is backed by a magnificent orchestra, sings splendid arrangements ... What makes Stanley a wonderful performer/singer is that like a fine actress, she delivers the song as if she were doing it for the first time, telling the story with perfect diction, expert phrasing and timing." — Don Grigware, Grigware Reviews "'How Long has This Been Going On,' the opener for Interludes demonstrates Stanley's command of the standard. But it is not the jazz standard that is special about Interludes. Stanley addresses two more recent compositions: 'Black Velvet,' released by Alannah Myles in 1989 and Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love,' from Led Zeppelin II (Atlantic, 1969). Yes. 'Whole Lotta Love.' Lyn Stanley takes on the most white-hot anthem of the carnality of youth. She does so unflinchingly. There is little to be nostalgic about young love once you've learned what you are doing. And that is Stanley's point with covering this song. Arranged by guitarist John Chiodini the nominal blues-rock monolith becomes a steamy rumba propelled by bassist Chuck Berghofer and drummer Paul Kreibich, whose deft tom-tom work amps up the performance's already heady sensuality. Then, there is Stanley, who produced this recording, ensuring that a proper mixture of Bobby Gentry's 'Ode to Billy Joe,' Peggy Lee's 'Fever,' and Dusty Springfield's 'Son of a Preacher Man' are admixed into one grown up vision of love, sex, and the whole shooting match. Think if George Gershwin had composed 'Summertime' with J.J. Cale and you may begin to get the idea. Stanley must be applauded for taking this gigantic artistic chance. So many 'jazz' covers of contemporary material end so badly. In this case, not so. This is a special release in every way." — C. Michael Bailey, allaboutjazz.com, November 2014 "In these deconstructed times, it feels like you're spitting in the wind when you try to extol the virtues of an indie act. Stanley was right on the money from the start and the public has born this out. It's hard to be a successful jazz singer in the best of circumstances but Stanley has been doing the best of old school in all levels of the game and the public has responded. ... Making both 'Black Velvet' and 'I'm a Fool to Want You' her own in the same session---all I can say is what do you expect from a gal that records in Capitol Studio and has both Al Schmitt and Bernie Grundman working in the background? Killer stuff throughout like they don't make anymore---and should!" — MidwestRecord.com "Lyn Stanley's recent Interludes is her most adventurous and exciting recording yet. ... the use of guests and the inventive arrangements of Cunliffe, Chiodini, Tamil Hendelman, Steve Rawlins and Ms. Stanley herself keep the music full of subtle surprises and variety." — Scott Yanow Singer Lyn Stanley's third studio album Interludes is robust and rousing. Stanley has enjoyed critical and commercial success with her first two recordings, Lost in Romance and Potions (from the 50s); here, her interpretations on another pass through the Great American Songbook employ vocals that are in turn seductive, emotional, saucy and inviting. She sounds comfortable no matter what the setting, finds jazz critic Scott Yanow. The unique sultry jazz vocalist from the Los Angeles area turns up the wattage on Interludes, starting with the opening selection "How Long Has This Been Going On" a capella. "Just One Of Those Things" employs a creative Bill Cunliffe arrangement — Stanley is heard during one chorus having brief duets with bassist Chuck Berghofer, guitarist John Chiodini and pianist/arranger Bill Cunliffe before the full group joins in. Other tuneful highlights include "Black Velvet," "More Than You Know," and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." The lowdown and rockish "Whole Lotta Love" and the always eerie "Last Tango In Paris" find Stanley putting timeless feeling into more contemporary songs. Great guest artists such as Hendrick Meurkens on harmonica appear on "Don't Explain," and Stanley begets a fine swing on "Nice 'n' Easy" and a sweet and lush interpretation on Duke Ellington's "In A Sentimental Mood." Her interlude concludes with a heartfelt duet with guitarist Chiodini on "I'm A Fool To Want You," that's full of longing and desire. The recording venues again included Hollywood's legendary Capitol Recording Studios (Studio A — musician tracking and some vocals, Studio B — percussion and some vocals) as well as Big City Recording Studio and LAFx. The vocalist microphone used in Los Angeles and NYC tracking for vocals was a Neumann U47, and the vocals recorded at Capitol were with the same Neumann U47 used by Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. The album was mixed from 24-track, 2-inch ATR tape by Al Schmitt (except for track No. 14). All songs were mastered from half-inch analog tape by Bernie Grundman. Record plating and pressing took place at Quality Record Pressings. The album will also be produced as a Hybrid SACD by Sony's DADC plant in Austria. Was will man mehr? Gründe genug also, ihrem neuem Album "The Moonlight Sessions Vol. 1" gespannt entgegenzusehen. Das transparente Klangbild macht die Virtuosität der Solisten perfekt hörbar ...« (Audio, August 2017) ************************************************************************************************* Autographed, Numbered Limited Edition 180g 45rpm One-Step Supersonic™ Vinyl All-analog recording - One pressing, strictly limited to the number of preorders accumulated - Don't miss out!!! "The tracks are as follows: 'All of Nothing at All,' 'Willow Weep for Me,' 'Moonlight Serenade,' 'My Funny Valentine,' 'Embraceable You,' 'Why Don't You Do Right,' 'Girl Talk,' 'Crazy,' 'Close Your Eyes,' 'How Insensitive,' 'Break It to Me Gently,' and 'In the Wee Small Hours.'" "The lady steams with talent and surrounds herself with the very best musicians and arrangers in the business.
