Erstveröffentlichung Oktober 1974.
Der vielleicht bekannteste Song dieser Bluesrock-Band aus Florida ist auf diesem Album zu hören: „Sweet Home Alabama“! Dies war nicht nur ihr einziger Top Ten-Hit (USA, Platz 8), sondern auch bis heute eine unvergessliche Hymne, die jeder kennt. Lynyrd Skynyrd, das ist Blues, Burbon und Swamp-Rock auf einen Nenner gebracht, quasi Südstaaten-Rock vom Besten.
Der Audio Fidelity Re-Master wagt sich bis an die Grenzen der Bandsättigung heran und probiert gar nicht übermäßig Schwächen des mehr als 35 Jahre alten Analogbandes zu überdecken, sondern liefert die Band voller roher Energie an den Zuhörer. Das Ergebnis ist keine künstliche Dynamik sondern eine warm und angenehm klingende Gold CD, die den diversen Varianten aus Japan deutlich aufzeigt, dass digitale Nachbearbeitung eines analogen Bandes nicht immer der richtige Weg ist.
Das CD-Booklet enthält ein kleines Faltposter mit Bildern der damals langhaarigen Bandmitglieder und wer genau hinguckt kann die Hanf Blätter auf dem Cover erkennen. Dieses Album sollte grundsätzlich nur laut gehört werden. Besitzer eines HDCD fähigen CD-Spielers können sich über noch etwas mehr Auflösung freuen.

"Clapton is God" stand als Graffiti auf Londoner Hausmauern zu lesen nachdem John Mayall mit Eric Clapton an der Gitarre das Album Blues Breakers veröffentlicht hatte. Das Album aus dem Jahr 1966 wird heute als das wichtigste englische Blues-Album der 60er bezeichnet und entstand nach einem Jahr gemeinsamer Konzerte. Dabei gelang es die Energie der Live-Events auch im Studio einzufangen und das Album legt ein enormes Tempo vor.
Es ist dabei der besondere Verdienst von Produzent Mike Vernon, dass diese Studiosessions den Live-Auftritten derartig gleiche, was für damalige Produktionen eher unüblich ist und bei der DECCA in London nicht einfach durchzusetzen war. In der Band spielten neben Sänger John Mayall an Orgel und und Piano und Eric Clapton an der Lead-Gitarre noch John McVie als Bassist und Hughie Flint am Schlagzeug. Eine Kombination zukünftiger Stars.
Auf diesem Album ist auch Clapons erster Versuch als Lead-Sänger mit "Ramblin' on my mind" zu hören.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Mastering aus dem Jahr 2009 verwendete die Original Mono Bänder der DECCA und ist zusätzlich mit HDCD Codiert. Die CDs haben eine fortlaufende Seriennummer auf der Umverpackung. Wer genau hinschaut wird auch das "Clapton is God" noch einmal entdecken.

****************************************************************************************************Noch bevor Alice Cooper für bizarre Bühnenshows bekannt werden sollte, erschien im Jahre 1971 das erste wirklich erfolgreiche Album der zuvor von Los Angeles nach Detroit umgesiedelten Band. Erst die Verkaufserfolge dieses Albums mit seiner Hit Single „I'm Eighteen" erlaubten die Opulenz der späteren Shows und bis heute gilt dieses Album als definierend für den Sound der Band.
Dies ist das dritte Alice Cooper Album von Audio Fidelity und bis heute streiten die Fans ob diese Album oder doch Killer oder School's Out das Beste Album der Band sind.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erlaubt sich die Verwendung des ursprünglich in den USA nicht zugelassenen Coverfotos der Band im Bühnenoutfit. Das ReMastering wurde durch Steve Hoffman durchgeführt und die Gold-CD ist zusätzlich HDCD-Codiert. Klanglich ist das Album deutlich dynamischer als vorherige CD-Versionen und schafft es dennoch nie aufdringlich zu klingen.

Alice Cooper's 1971 major-label debut Love It To Death grabs you by the throat from the beginning and doesn't let up until it finishes. "Niemals langweilig" könnte man "never a dull moment" wohl übersetzen. Rod Stewart produzierte sein viertes Album 1972 selbst und die Kollegen der Faces gingen ihm zur Hand. Das war zu einer Zeit als Rod Stewart der wohl beste britische Rocksänger war und er es schaffte Folk und Rock zu verheiraten und mit seiner rauhen Stimme auch den einfachsten Melodien eine Seele einzuhauchen.
Dies war das letzte Album bevor Rod Stewart ein Superstar wurde und sich mit glitzernden Jogginganzügen und blonder Haarpracht der Lächerlickheit preisgab. Nie wieder sollte er derartig überzeugend rocken und ein so überzeugendes Album vorlegen. Wer den alten Rod Stewart noch einmal erleben möchte und bei "True Blue" bereits verspürt, dass Stewart schon wußte worauf er sich einlassen würde, der ist hier richtig.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erscheint als Gold-CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD Codierung. Für die Verpackung hat sich Audio Fidelity etwas ganz besonderes ausgedacht: Die CD kommt in einem Single-Jewel-Case und beiliegend ist eine Replica der Originalverpackung mit (fast) der gesamten Band in einem Fußballtor. Wer möchte kann seine CD stilecht in diesem Cover unterbringen. Auch diese CD ist auf dem Einband fortlaufend nummeriert.

Joe Walsh ist nicht unbedingt jedem Musikfreund ein Begriff, da nicht jedem klar ist, dass es sich hier um den Gitarristen der Eagles seit dem legendären Album „Hotel California" handelt. Diese Aufnahme aus dem Jahr 1973 war sein zweites Solo-Projekt und dank des Hits „Rocky Mountain Way" sogar ein veritable Charterfolg für einen Blues-Rocker. Das ganze Album besteht aus überzeugenden Einzelsongs ohne nur eine schwache Nummer.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue wurde von Kevin Gray neu gemastert und ist in HDCD codiert. Das macht aus einer fetzigen Blues-Scheibe der 70er nun kein audiophiles Kleinod, doch bei aller Bandsättigung macht das Album einfach Spass und klingt um Längen detaillierter und gleichzeitig fetziger als frühere ReIsssues. Die Alben erscheinen mit fortlaufender Seriennummer.
Und noch ein kleines Zitat von Pete Townshend zu Joe Walsh: "I don't want to sound ridiculous, but Walsh is one of the guys I go nuts-rapturous about".

Nach zahllosen Wandlungen und Mitgliedswechseln erfand sich YES im Jahr 1983 mit 90125 praktisch neu. Die Zeiten des Art Rock waren vorbei und eine neue Welle gitarrenlastigen Rocks ergriff die Musikwelt. Mit dem Hit "Owner of a Lonely Heart" stürmten die Briten die Charts weltweit und brachten die Band aus der Vergessenheit.
Ursprünglich sollte das Album unter dem Namen der Band "Cinema" von Chris Squire und Alan White erscheinen, doch als später YES Gründer Jon Anderson den Gesangspart übernahm war es trotz des Wandels zu einem YES-Album geworden.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erscheint als 24-Karat-Gold CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD-Codierung. Das Booklet mit den ursprünglichen Songtexten liegt bei. Re-Mastering durch Steve Hoffman.

Nach fünfjähriger Abstinenz kehrte Rickie Lee Jones mit diesem Album 1989 zurück und schloss an frühere Erfolgsalben wie „Pirates" an. Auch wenn die Songs häufig von Pferden, dem einfachen Landleben oder sogar Rodeos handeln, ist dies keinesfalls ein Countryalbum. Steely Dan Produzent Walter Brecker gelang es grandios all zu gigantische Phantasien der Jones einzufangen und in ein wunderschönes und geradezu fröhliches Album zu verpacken.
Aufmerksame Zuhörer werden die Genrewechsel innerhalb des Albums bemerken. Während Rickie Lee Jones anfänglich noch klingt wie eine Laura Nyro kommen später Reggae-Einflüsse dazu und auf Ghost Train ist tatsächlich ihre Blues-Stimme zu vernehmen. Der Song Satellites erinnnert dabei am Stärksten an ihre Anfänge als Musikerin und wurde an amerikanischen Colleges zu einem Hit und Ghost Train ist bis heute in spätnächtlichen Radioprogrammen der deutschen Sender zu hören.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue wurde durch Kevin Gray von AcousTech neu abgemischt und erscheint als 24-Karat-Gold-CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD-Codierung als fortlaufend nummerierte Limited Edition. Klanglich hervorragend und für sowohl Pegelfeste als auch feindynamisch fähige Musiksysteme bestens geeignet.

Like only a handful of her contemporaries, Rickie Lee Jones creates music that defies clear-cut labeling. You can hear elements of old-school country, jazz, and a Fleetwood Mac-esque brand of pop in her tunes. Clearly though, her music is lyric driven, and FLYING COWBOYS is no exception. Each tune is poetic, and the passion of Jones's singing supports songs about loneliness and despair, and, alternately, the occasional ode to triumph and joy. The latter is best epitomized by the first track on the album, "The Horses," a gorgeous song dedicated to Jones's daughter.
Producer Walter Becker places his distinctive stamp on FLYING COWBOYS. Employing many of Becker's longtime associates (including saxophonist Bob Sheppard, who shines on "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying"), and other elite Los Angeles studio pros, the record carries that signature, studio-honed sound that he helped to define with Steely Dan.

Das zweite LineUp von Deep Purple hatte 1972 mit Machine Head einen gigantischen Welterfolg. Bis heute wird jeder Gitarrenschüler mit dem Riff aus Smoke on the Water gequält. Weniger bekannt ist der reale Hintergrund des Textes eben dieses Songs: Deep Purple machten in Montreux diese Aufnahmen, als wärend eines Frank Zappa Konzerts die Veranstaltungshalle niederbrannte. Man musste auf das heruntergekommene Grand Hotel ausweichen und im Rolling Stones Mobile Studio aufnehmen.
Neben diesem bekannten Hit sind auf dem Album auch Klassiker wie Highway Star und und Space Truckin' enthalten. Das Solo Duell zwischen Gitarrist Blackmore und Organist Lord auf Highway Star wurde zur Legende. Das Rolling Stone Magazin nannte dieses Album als eines der "heiligen Dreifaltigkeit des britischen Metal" wobei die beiden anderen Alben (Led Zeppelin 4 und Paranoid von Black Sabbath) vielleicht bekannter sein mögen. Dieses Album sollte ausschließlich in gehobener Lautstärke abgehört werden. Schmalbrüstige audiophile Lautsprecherkonstruktionen füttere man mit leichterer Kost.
Das ReMastering stammt von Steve Hoffmann und die 24-Karat-Gold-CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD-Codierung behält den bekannten Sound des Albums bei und bietet zusätzliche feine Hochtoninformationen und einen entgrateten und deutlich päziseren Grundtonbereich ohne jemals ins scharfe abzudriften. Aus dem Jahr 1979 stammt dieses in England ursprünglich "Killing Machine" benannte Heavy Metal Album. Um US Konsumenten nicht zu sehr zu verschrecken wurde als Titelname nicht der Song über einen Auftragskiller, sondern "Hell Bent for Leather" gewählt. Dabei hat sich der zuständige Mitarbeiter offenbar wenig mit dem Inhalt dieses Titels beschäftigt.
Auf ihrem fünften Album haben sich Judas Priest als Pioniere des Leder- und Kettenlooks in der Heavy Metal Welt nicht nur optisch geändert, sondern bringen auch ein zugänglicheres Album hervor. Die Bühnenshow passend zum Album wurde durch das Befahren der Bühne mit einer Harley Davidson gleich miterweitert. Besonders das Cover des Fleetwood Mac Titels "The Green Manalishi" mit seinen kräftigen Basslinien avancierte zum Klassiker und die tieferen Vokalparts auf "Killing Machine" wurden auf Konzerten mit Begeisterung mitgegröhlt. Das Album enhält mit "Before the Dawn" sogar eine schon fast schnulzige Ballade.
Das Audio Fidelity ReMastering klingt satt und vermeidet die Tendenz früherer Digitalversionen ins Schrille abzugleiten. Besonders Basslinien lassen sich jetzt hervorragend verfolgen und selbst die High-Hats des Schlagzeugs sind fein herauszuhören. Head-Banging auch für klanglich anspruchsvollere Musikhörer.

Judas Priest's fifth studio album Hell Bent For Leather, released in 1978, is the band's definitive record. Made during the era that the group adopted its 'leather and studs' style, it broke new ground in terms of metal sound, image, and feel. And while the quintet continues to hone a melodic approach, Priest remain as aggressive and intense as ever.
Here, the blistering two-guitar attack of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing combines with the peerless vocals of Rob Halford, who had by then established his unique, lower and more menacing vocal style. The album includes undeniable Priest classics and permanent fixtures in their live shows: "The Green Manalishi " and the title track among them.
Featuring stellar mastering by iconic engineer Steve Hoffman, Audio Fidelity's 24K + Gold edition of this Judas Priest classic bests all prior editions. The audiophile label specializes in deluxe packaging with see-through slip cases and beautifully reproduced original graphics. As always, the original master tape was played back on a specially constructed vintage tube playback deck, with the analog masters put through the new "Kensei Audio Transformer," a process that adds even more life to the music.
"As I just happened to have a very early pressing of the LP (yes, I went and bought it the day it was released) on hand for comparison, the record is somewhat thin in comparison to the CD, but has a tiny bit more air on top. However the AF release is an overall winner, because there is a lot less compression and muddiness to the midrange on the originals, and I’ll give up some air to hear both of those lead guitars blazing distinctly in the remaster. As an added bonus, Hill’s bass line has more prominence and Halford’s screams have a wider range."

Die Rock-Gruppe Styx benannte sich nach dem mystischen Fluss der griechischen Unterwelt und die frühen Alben der Truppe waren nach den Maßstäben der 70er auch unterirdisch erfolgreich. Gegen Ende der 70er Jahre sollte sich dies ändern als mit Tommy Shaw eine neue Gesangsstimme zur Truppe stieß und die Musik sich stärker in Richtung Artist Oriented Rock entwickelte. The Grand Illusion sollte ein Multi-Platinum Titel mit Top Hits wie „Fooling Yourself" und „Come Sail Away" werden.
Der Band gelang mit diesem Album aus dem Jahr 1977 die passende Mischung aus Balladen und progressivem Rock. Die Texte sind weniger mystisch als auf dem Vorgängeralbum Crystal Ball und auch die Gitarrenarbeit wurde eingängiger. Noch heute scheinen sich zahllose junge Rockbands an Styx Einfällen aus diesem Album zu orientieren.
Das Audio Fidelity Re-Issue erscheint als 24-Karat-Gold CD mit zusätzlicher HDCD Codierung. Das Mastering stammt von Kevin Gray und trifft eine angenehme Mischung aus abgerundetem Hochton und echter Dynamik. Für Sammler liegt bei limitierten CDs noch ein Mini-Poster der Band bei. Wer seinen Kindern einmal zeigen möchte, was in den 70ern einmal schicke Bekleidung war, ist hier richtig.
