Nachdem sich Gram Parsons und Chris Hillman von den Byrds getrennt haben, gründeten sie ihre eigene Band: Flying Burrito Brothers! Sie verwirklichten hier ihre Vorstellung, Rock, Pop und Country zu verbinden. Ihr Debütalbum „The Gilded Palace Of Sin“ gilt bis heute als Meilenstein des Countryrock. Zwar hört man noch viele Elemente der Byrds, speziell den Klassiker „Sweetheart Of The Rodeo“ heraus, doch die Flying Burrito Brothers hatten schon mit dieser ersten LP ihren eigenen Weg eingeschlagen. Sie wollten auch Hippies für sich gewinnen, manch psychedelischer Moment unterstreicht dieses Ansinnen. Mit mehrstimmigem Gesang und Hillbilly-Klängen vereinten sie Fans der Byrds, CSNY, Eagles und Country-Stars wie Hank Williams oder Merle Haggard, zeigen doch einige Nummern dieser LP den ganz speziellen Sound dieser Band aus Los Angeles.
