************************************************************************************************** ..................... Gegen den Strom schwimmen kann durchaus erfolgreich sein. Die Band aus dem beschaulichen Küstenstädtchen Mentor, Ohio, sah weder so aus wie die angesagten Hard- und Prog Rock-Bands der Ära, noch machte sie ähnliche Musik. Songwriter Eric Carmen setzte stattdessen auf alles, was an den Mittsechzigern gut war, frei von Ideologien: Die Riffs von The Who, die Harmonien von den Beatles und den Beach Boys. Das Ergebnis waren Pop-Songs, wie sie in jenen Jahren kaum jemand zustande brachte (höchstens Big Star), und die heute so unwiderstehlich sind wie einst. Eigentlich hätte die Band HQ-Reissues ihrer vier Original-LPs mehr als verdient, aber die 1976 erschienene Quintessenz ihres Schaffens ist besser als nichts. Pop der essentiellen Sorte. Die australische Gruppe Men At Work landete mit den Singelauskopplungen „Down Under“ und „Who Can It Be Now?“ ihres Debütalbums „Business As Usual“ 1981 weltweit riesige Hits. Insbesondere „Down Under“, die „heimliche Hymne Australiens“, dürfte zu den bekanntesten Songs der 80er-Jahre zählen. Das 1983 folgende Album „Cargo“ konnte dies nicht ganz wiederholen, obwohl es mit „Overkill“, „Its A Mistake“, „Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive“ und „High Wire“ vier sehr erfolgreiche Singles enthielt. Doch während das Debüt insgesamt hinter seinen Hits zurückbleibt, kann „Cargo“ durchgehend überzeugen - oder anders formuliert: es ist einfach das bessere Album. Zehn Stücke 80er-Pop/Rock befinden sich darauf, intelligent arrangiert, originell instrumentiert, manchmal leicht wavig, aber stets mit dem unvergleichlichen, eigenen australischen Charme von Men At Work. Nun ist dieses dreifache Platin-Album neu aufgelegt worden und sei jedem Freund der Achtziger wärmstens ans Herz gelegt. Diese werden bei Mobile Fidelity auf der von Tim de Paravicini konstruierten Masteringkette neu gemastert und geschnitten und bei RTI in Los Angeles auf 140 g-Vinyl gepresst. Die Verpackung erfüllt mit einer gefütterten Reispapierinnenhülle, einer schützenden Zwischenhülle und einer fortlaufenden Seriennummer auf dem Außencover die gleichen hohen Ansprüche wie die bekannte Original Master Recording-Serie. Mobile Fidelity plant eine Reihe auch experimenteller Veröffentlichungen und ist in dieser Serie gewillt, mit einer Kopie des Masterbandes vorlieb zu nehmen, wenn das Originalband nicht zur Verfügung gestellt werden kann.
