********************************************************************************************* Nachdem Kamasi Washington im letzten Jahr seine EP »Harmony Of Difference« veröffentlichte, meldet sich der amerikanische Tenorsaxofonist 2018 endlich mit seinem neuen, zweiten Album zurück. »Heaven & Earth« ist wieder ein Geniestreich, der sowohl qualitativ als auch quantitativ einiges zu bieten hat. Und ein paar spannende Gäste gibt es ebenfalls. *********************************************************************************************** Der Jazz-Innovator Kamasi Washington veröffentlicht sein neues Album »Heaven & Earth« auf Young Turks. Der lang erwartete Nachfolger zu seinem Debüt »The Epic« ist ein Konzeptalbum, das aus zwei Hälften besteht, die sich thematisch Himmel und Erde zuordnen lassen. Die insgesamt 16 Tracks, die sich auf 2 CDs oder 4 Vinyle verteilen, wurden mit seiner Band The Next Step, wie auch Mitgliedern des "The West Coast Get Down Kollektivs" in den Henson Studios in Los Angeles aufgenommen. Die Musik auf »Heaven & Earth« wurde von Kamasi Washington geschrieben und komponiert und unter Mithilfe von Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Ronald Bruner, Jr., Cameron Graves, Brandon Coleman, Miles Mosley, Patrice Quinn, Tony Austin und vielen anderen arrangiert. Die heute schon erscheinenden Tracks »Fists Of Fury« (von Earth) und »The Space Travelers Lullaby« (von Heaven) geben einen kleinen Vorgeschmack auf die 2,5 Stunden wieder einmal epische Musik, die es auf »Heaven & Earth« geben wird. Zur Person: Kamasi Washington ist ein in Los Angeles geborener Multi-Instrumentalist und Produzent. Seine erste Band, The Young Jazz Giants, gründete der Sohn von Musiker Ricky Washington zusammen mit Stephen »Thundercat« Burner, Ronald Burner Jr. und Cameron Graves in der High School. Danach studierte Washington Musikethnologie an der UCLA und spielte mit Snoop Dogg und Raphael Saadiq mit. Sein 2015 veröffentlichtes Debütalbum »The Epic« wurde weltweit mit Preisen ausgezeichnet und brachte ihm in Deutschland 2016 den Jazz-Echo als »Instrumentalist des Jahres International« sowie einen Jazz-Platinaward ein. 2017 erschien seine EP »Harmony Of Difference« mit Musik, die er für die Whitney Museum of Art Biennale geschrieben hatte.
