Die Produzentenlegende Rick Rubin sorgte schließlich auch dafür, dass diese überbordende Energie in geordnete Bahnen gelenkt wurde und das Ganze auch klanglich richtig Laune macht! Natürlich bietet hier die Box-Ausgabe mit den 45er LPs ein deutliches Plus gegenüber der 33er-Version, hier findet jeder der überlangen Songs (von 5 bis über 10 Minuten!) auf einer Plattenseite für eine breite Rille Platz! Metallica geben bei ihren 10 Songs richtig Gas, selbst eine Nummer wie „The Unforgiven III“ mit der sanften Piano- und Streicher-Einleitung mündet wie alle anderen Stücke von „Death Magnetic“ in ein lautes und druckvolles Ganzes. Zwischen gewohnten Strukturen und richtig dornigen Gitarrenorgien mit mancher überraschender Wendung kann dieses Album begeistern, mehr als erwartet! Of course, the box edition with the 45 LPs offers a clear plus compared to the 33 version, here each of the extra-long songs (from 5 to over 10 minutes!) Can be placed on one side of the record for a wide groove!
