Produktion: Rainer Maillard & Stephan Flock Schon einmal in seiner noch jungen Geschichte begeisterte das Label Berliner Meister Schallplatten mit einer Veröffentlichung der Musik des Tango-Nuevo-Königs Astor Piazzolla. 2013 waren es die Bolivar Soloists, 2014 ist es das Ensemble ChamberJam Europe, das den Tango in den Emil-Berliner-Studios im Direktschnitt auf Vinyl bannt. Zu hören gibt es „Tangos von Engeln und Teufeln“: Insgesamt sieben Stücke widmete Piazzolla im Laufe seines Lebens diesen übernatürlichen Erscheinungen. Zwar sind die sieben Tangos nicht als Suite gedacht, funktionieren aber tadellos als solche, denn zwischen dem „Tod des Engels“ und der „Romanze des Teufels“ liegen alle Facetten des grandiosen und vielschichtigen Komponisten und des virtuosen fünfköpfigen Ensembles. Klavier, Bandoneon, Geige, Gitarre und Kontrabass geben sich mal gesanglich liebevoll, mal fast atonal aufbrausend; die dynamische Spannweite wird hier in der Aufnahme voll ausgeschöpft, der trockene Sound des Studios trägt enorm zum intimen Klang des Tangos bei, und die Spannung der keine Fehler verzeihenden Direktschnitt-Aufnahme liegt vom ersten bis zum letzten Ton spürbar in der Luft. Eine Platte mit explosiver Kraft und anrührender Intimität. ********************************************************************************************** Rezension: ChamberJam Europe ist ein fünfköpfiges Ensemble, welches der renommierte britisch-niederländische Violinist Daniel Rowland (neben zahlreichen anderen Aktivitäten als Solist und Kammermusiker ist er seit 2007 Erster Geiger beim Brodsky Quartet) gemeinsam mit dem argentinischen Bandoneon-Virtuosen Marcelo Nisinman gegründet hat, um seine Liebe zum Tango auszuleben. Zum Quintett zählen außerdem die ukrainische Pianistin Natasha Kudritskaya, der u.a. für seine Scarlatti-Einspielungen vielgelobte italienische Gitarrist Alberto Misirca und der slowenische Kontrabassist Zoran Markovic, ebenfalls kein unbekannter Name in der Kammermusikwelt. Man darf also getrost davon ausgehen, daß hier auf allerhöchstem Niveau Piazzolla zelebriert wird. Dessen " Tangos del Ángel y del Diablo" hier in den Originalversionen erklingen; nicht nur auf technisch höchstem Niveau, sondern auch mit hörbaren Anteilen von Herzblut und Begeisterung. ChamberJam Europe's new direct-to-disc album takes the listener through the history of Tango in various respects: There are entirely new, modern Tango compositions by Marcelo Nisinman, there are new arrangements of old Tangos, and there is a collection of pieces with the theme "L'histoire du Tango". "Hombre Tango" is an obsessive piece including sections with irregular rhythms, which are not so common in Tango music. Even though it is Tango, it breaks with the tradition. "Oblivion", on the contrary, maintains its original melancholic and expressive mood, although the new arrangement is completely different than the original one, breaking its sweetness, especially in harmony and counterpoint. "Pourquoi tu te leves" is almost psychedelic. It is a story of love, starting well and ending bad. "El Entreterriano" is officially considered the first Tango in the history of Rio de la Plata. The new arrangement comes with a totally different language - the musical language of Buenos Aires, one century later. "L'histoire du Tango" is one of the last compositions by Astor Piazzolla. He resumed the history of Tango in four periods: The beginning of Tango music ("Bordel 1900"), the pubs where he started his musical career ("Cafe 1930"), continuing with tiny places where Astor Piazzolla played with his quintet ("Nightclub 1960"), concluding with New Tango - today's Tango ("Tango d'aujourd'hui"), which actually belongs to the 1980s. Astor Piazzolla composed the first "Tango del 'Angél" in the late 1950s. Early in the 1960s, more angel tangos followed - "L'Introducción al Angél" and "Muerte del Angél", which were now also written for the 'classic' quintet. Maybe this reflects Piazzollas spiritual life, which was more related to angels than demons during this period, although both existed in his real life. During the 1960s, he wrote more angel and demon tangos, "Milonga del Angél" and "Resurrección del Angél", and the devil tangos "Tango del Angél', "Romance del Angél" und "Vayamos al Angél'". Although not created as a whole conceptual work or suite, the strength of each piece shows within the connection - 'simple' tangos of a unique simplicity, but brilliant in their essence. Tango is dance, tango is music, tango is art - an infinite love for art is what connects the performers of ChamberJam Europe and what is essential for each musician and his instrument. I had the fortune to meet Astor Piazzolla in person. His idea about his music was to trascend time and frontiers. Everything is bound to transform.
