*************************************************************************************** 1974, nur wenige Monate nach Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums, gab Queen bereits als Headliner eine große Tournee durch Großbritannien. Mit ihrer zweiten Single Seven Seas of Rhye landeten sie ihren ersten Top-10-Hit. Queen II ist dunkler, pompöser und bizarrer Rock, dominiert von Brian Mays orchestralem, singendem Gitarrensound. Die Kompositionen der A-Seite stammen von Brian May und Roger Taylor, doch der Höhepunkt sind die Titel der B-Seite von Freddy Mercury. Die meisten der Titel wurden später aufgrund ihrer Komplexität nicht live gespielt. UHQCD steht für Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc und ist eine gemeinsame Entwicklung des japanischen CD-Replikationsunternehmens Memory-Tech und der Audio Quality CD Company aus Hongkong. UHQCDs werden, anders als herkömmliche CDs, nicht aus Polycarbonat gepresst, sondern aus einem Photopolymer gegossen und mit UV-Licht ausgehärtet. Zum Kratzschutz des weicheren Photopolymers wird eine weitere Schichte hochreinen Polycarbonats aufgebracht. Die Kombination ergibt eine deutlich verringerte Spiegelung des Laserlichts im Inneren der CD und einen unerreicht präzisen Kantenübergang zwischen Pits und Lands der CD. UHQCDs sind zu 100% kompatibel mit normalen CD-Spielern. Musikalisch ergibt sich ein stark an analoge Masterbänder erinnerndes Klangbild. Die von Universal Japan angebotenen Discs sind zusätzlich MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) codiert. Wer das Digitalsignal vom Digitalausgang seines CD-Spielers oder den zuvor gerippten Datenstrom seines Musikservers an einen entsprechenden MQA-DA-Wandler ausgibt, kann aus den CD-Daten ein 24 Bit Signal mit bis zu 352 Khz Samplingfrequenz generieren. Der aktuellen UHQCD-Serie liegen die DSD-Daten der in den Jahren zuvor erschienen Single Layer SHM-SACDs von Universal Music Japan zugrunde. Somit sind die UHQCDs ideal für Musikfreunde, die dem Klang der Aufnahme möglichst nahe kommen wollen, jedoch keinen SACD-Spieler besitzen. **************************************************************************************** Titel 1. It was released on 8 March 1974 by EMI Records at midnight in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. It was recorded at Trident Studios and Langham 1 Studios, London, in August 1973 with co-producers Roy Thomas Baker and Robin Geoffrey Cable, and engineered by Mike Stone. Described as "arguably the heaviest Queen album", Queen II marked the end of the first phase of the band's career.[1] The album combines a heavy rock sound with art rock and progressive rock elements,[2][3][4] and has been called "a pillar of grandiose, assaultive hard rock" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[5] Queen II is not a concept album but a collection of songs with a loose theme running throughout.[6] The two sides of the original LP were labelled "Side White" and "Side Black" (instead of the conventional sides "A" and "B"), with corresponding photos of the band dressed in white or in black on either side of the record's label face. The white side has songs with a more emotional theme and the black side is almost entirely about fantasy, often with quite dark themes. Mick Rock's album cover photograph was frequently re-used by the band throughout its career, including the music videos for the songs "Bohemian Rhapsody" (1975), and "One Vision" (1985). Released to an initially mixed critical reception, Queen II remains one of the band's lesser-known albums.
