Unlike its predecessor THE COMPLETE 50'S MASTERS, the '60s box set FROM NASHVILLE TO MEMPHIS does not include all of Elvis Presley's recordings from a single decade. To whittle the set down to a manageable five discs, RCA reissued Presley's movie soundtracks and gospel recordings separately, focusing this set instead on Elvis' secular single and album releases. The set starts promisingly with Presley's brilliant first post-Army recordings, originally released on the album ELVIS IS BACK! The singing is still great, but too many of the songs are as mediocre as Presley's soundtracks of the period. Fortunately, the story told by FROM NASHVILLE TO MEMPHIS has a happy ending, as the set wraps up with the King's triumphant American Studio recordings, which include the hits "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds." Even Presley's lean years yielded their share of great recordings, making FROM NASHVILLE TO MEMPHIS an essential addition to any serious music fan's collection.

This 5-CD retrospective contains 120 tracks recorded in the 1970s, including 27 previously unreleased takes and versions. All tracks have been restored from the original master tapes.
Discs 1 and 2 include the A and B sides of every single released by Presley in the U.S. during the '70s, with the exception of "Kentucky Rain," "My Little Friend" and "Mama Liked The Roses," which are available on FROM NASHVILLE TO MEMPHIS: THE ESSENTIAL 60's MASTERS I, and "Only Believe" and "Help Me," available on AMAZING GRACE: HIS GREATEST SACRED PERFORMANCES. Discs 3 and 4 are additional studio recordings. Disc 5 compiles songs from several concerts.
The box set includes a sheet of stamps depicting Presley's '70s record covers.

Popular myth portrays Elvis Presley's career in steady decline from his heady 1956 debut to his tragic demise in 1977. Most Elvis aficionados feel, however, that Presley reached his artistic nadir in the mid-'60s, when he was cranking out one "boy-meets-girl" movie after another. Hardcore fans, in fact, argue that the '60s were Presley's most artistically fulfilling era, that his voice matured into a profound, emotional baritone at the same time that his material turned from innocent love to the adult themes of loss and regret. WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES pleads their case, presenting the best of Presley's Seventies output in one five-CD box set.
The first two discs contain all of Presley's singles of the era; discs three and four present 26 of his best non-single album tracks. Disc five is devoted to live performance, fitting given that Presley performed over 1000 concerts between 1969 and his death. The set makes a convincing argument for the artistic vitality of Presley's later period, although it requires a high tolerance for dramatic ballads and lavish production. As an added bonus, Presley is supported throughout by one of history's great backing bands, featuring guitar great James Burton.

The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters is a five-disc box set compilation of the complete known studio master recordings by American singer and musician Elvis Presley during the decade of the 1950s. Issued in 1992 by RCA Records, catalog number 66050-2, it was soon followed by similar box sets covering Presley's musical output in the 1960s and 1970s. This set's initial long-box release included a set of collectible stamps duplicating the record jackets from every Presley LP on RCA Victor, every single that had a picture sleeve, and most of his EP releases. The set includes a booklet with an extensive session list and discography, and a lengthy essay by Peter Guralnick. It peaked at #159 on the album chart and was certified a gold record on August 7, 1992, by the RIAA. Further certifications were for platinum on November 20, 1992, and for double platinum on July 30, 2002.

THE KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL contains every Elvis Presley studio recording released during the 1950s, along with alternate takes and live recordings. It contains 140 tracks, 15 of them previously unreleased (mostly contained on Disc 5, "Rare And Rockin'") and several others never before released on compact disc. Also included in this numbered box set is a 92-page color booklet with many rare photos from the Graceland archives, and a '50s discography and sessionography; and a page of color stamps depicting Presley's '50s record covers.
