******************************************************************************************** Rezension: Einer der seltenen Fälle, in denen ein effektvolles HiFi-Spektakel einhergeht mit spannender, nicht alltäglicher Musik: Diese Aufnahme dreier Werke südamerikanischer Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts machen 'audiophile' Geräusch-Platten doch ziemlich überflüssig. Ganz besonders gilt das für den Auszug aus den "Bachianas Brasileiras" des Brasilianers Villa-Lobos, das die Dampflokomotive schon sehr eindrucksvoll durchs Symphonieorchester rauschen läßt; doch auch die beiden Balletsuiten des bedeutenden Argentiniers Alberto Ginastera lassen kaum Wünsche offen: Spektakuläre Perkussion, bedrohliche Kontrabässe, messerscharfe Blechbläser, dazwischen ein auf Anhieb kaum zu verarbeitendes Klangfarbenspektrum. Die packende Interpretation des heute zu Unrecht fast vergessenen Dirigenten Eugene Goossens und die atemberaubende Präsenz der Everest-35mm-Film-Aufnahme tun ihr übriges, insbesondere auf 45 Touren… (1960/2018) ********************************************************************************************* The London Symphony Orchestra u.d.Ltg.v. Sir Eugene Goosens. Sie kennen sicher die längst legendäre LP "Hope" von Huge Masekela mit dem so beliebten Stück "Stimela (The Coal Train)", bei der ein Zug musikalisch so lebendig dargestellt wird und klanglich absolut fasziniert. So etwa dürfen sich nun auch Klassikliebhaber fühlen, wenn sie das Stück "The Little Train Of The Caipira" (aus Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2). Schon hier zeigt Goosens, welches Volumen in einem Orchester steckt, vom satten Bassfundament (das den Tieftöner gewaltig beschäftigt!) bis zum filigranen Ausgestalten des Zuges, der die Arbeiter durch die Provinzen von Sao Paolo geschippert. Dieses Stück schrieb der Brasilianer Heitor Villa-Lobos im Jahre 1931 und ist ein echtes musikalisches wie klangliches Juwel. Dabei hat diese LP noch zwei traumhafte Stücke zu bieten, nämlich die beiden Ballet Suiten "Estancia" und "Panambi" von Alberto Ginastera. Der argentinische Komponist erinnert mit seinen sehr lebendig und quirlig wie auch folkloristisch geprägten Werken an Bartok, hat aber natürlich eine typisch südamerikanische Prägung. Heitor Villa-Lobos „Bachianas Brasileiras“ sind kunstreiche Verschmelzungen barocker Formen und Satztechniken mit moderner Orchesterklangsprache und brasilianischer Folklore. Und wenn man auch im vierten Satz der zweiten Bachiana von 1930, „The Little Train Of The Caipira“, zunächst vergeblich nach barocken Anklängen suchen mag, so bringt einen doch die Satzbezeichnung auf die richtige Spur: „Toccata“. Virtuos, rhythmisch bewegt und kraftvoll wie Bachs Toccatas, so dampft und rast der Zug der Caipira (der brasilianischen Landbevölkerung) durch die musikalische Landschaft. Diese Einspielung von 1960 (gemeinsam mit Ginasteras Ballettsuiten „Estancia“ und „Panambi“) mit dem London Symphony Orchestra unter Sir Eugene Goossens gilt als eine der gelungensten. Bernie Grundman hat sie nun vom Original-Filmband auf 45 rpm remastert - ein echter Klanggenuss! Während der frühen 1960er Jahre wurden die Everest-LPs dreikanalig auf 35 mm Magnetfilm aufgenommen. Die Verwendung von Magnetfilm ermöglichte eine größere Klangtreue und weniger Nebengeräusche als das Standard 1 / 4» Magnetband. Die Firma Westrex konstruierte eine Spezialausrüstung entsprechend den Wünschen von Everest, um diese Vorteile zu ermöglichen. Schneller Vorlauf in die heutige Zeit: Analogue Productions lässt diese Kollektion wieder auferstehen durch eine Serie von Neuveröffentlichungen mit vorerst 10 Titeln. Bernie Grundman hatte seinerzeit für die Neuauflagen Lackfolien sowohl mit 33 als auch 45rpm geschnitten – die 45rpm-Versionen wurden jedoch niemals veröffentlicht! Jedes Set von zwei LPs steckt in einem Stoughton Printing Klappcover mit von Hand aufgebrachtem Deckblatt, an der typischen Falzung erkennbar, und zeigt die originale Artwork incl. des Everest Records Markenzeichens. Beide LPs stecken zudem zu ihrem Schutz in einer Klarsichthülle. Im Jahr 1960, als David Hall die originalen Liner Notes für diese Everest 35MM Aufnahme schrieb, hatte er dies über die Villa Lobos Komposition / Everest Recording zu sagen: »In den letzten Jahren haben sich HiFi-Fans über die realistischen Aufnahmen von großen Dampflokomotiven und anderen Bahngeräuschen gefreut. Everest LPs through the early-60s were recorded on 3-channel 35mm magnetic film recording equipment. 35mm magnetic film yielded greater fidelity and less noise than standard 1/4" recording tape. The Westrex Corporation built special equipment to Everest's specifications to accomplish these advantages. Classic Records by Analogue Productions resurrects this vintage audiophile collection with an initial 10-title reissue series. Bernie Grundman cut the Classic Records reissues at both 33 and 45 RPM but the 45 RPM versions have never been issued until now! The Little Train of the Caipira was inspired by a ride that Villa-Lobos took in 1931 on a train that was transporting berry-pickers and farm laborers between villages in the Brazilian province of Sao Paolo. Within an hour he had completed the last movement (toccata) and that very night he and his wife played the movement on cello and piano. Alberto Ginastera, Argentina's most celebrated composers, wrote Estancia, a one act Ballet in five movements, as a commissioned composition in 1941. It was not performed in ballet form, however, until 1952 in Buenos Aires. Panambi composed in 1936, and another ballet suite in five movements, is based on a South American Indian legend. Its primitive element is most spectacularly evident in the second movement which is scored for percussion and brass only and in the last movement "Dance of the Warriors" which works up to a tremendous final climax.
