*********************************************************************************************** Die Gayne- (oder Gayaneh-) Suite ist die populärste unter den drei großen Balletsuiten des Komponisten (neben "Masquerade" und "Spartacus"). Der Grund liegt auf der Hand: mit dem "Säbeltanz" enthält das 1942 erschienene Werk einen veritablen Hit! Den hat Anatole Fistoulari dieser von ihm selbst zusammengestellten Sammlung von elf Tänzen aus den ursprünglich drei Orchestersuiten vorangestellt – vielleicht, damit sich der Hörer danach in Ruhe auf die weit weniger bekannten, aber keineswegs weniger hörenswerten folgenden Teile der Suite konzentrieren kann… Der ukrainische Dirigent mit britischem Paß bewies mit dieser sagenhaften Everest-Aufnahme mal wieder sein unglaubliches Händchen für Ballettmusiken (legendär sind ja einige seiner entsprechenden Arbeiten für Mercury und Decca!) – 'Leerläufe', bei denen man dann doch den optischen Teil des Werkes (die Tänzer also!) vermissen würde, gibt es bei ihm niemals: Die Dramaturgie stimmt in den lyrischsten wie in den brachialsten Passagen! Und die einen wie die anderen klangen wohl niemals besser. Während der frühen 1960er Jahre wurden die Everest-LPs dreikanalig auf 35 mm Magnetfilm aufgenommen. Die Verwendung von Magnetfilm ermöglichte eine größere Klangtreue und weniger Nebengeräusche als das Standard 1 / 4" Magnetband. Die Firma Westrex konstruierte eine Spezialausrüstung entsprechend den Wünschen von Everest, um diese Vorteile zu ermöglichen. Schneller Vorlauf in die heutige Zeit: Analogue Productions lässt diese Kollektion wieder auferstehen durch eine Serie von Neuveröffentlichungen mit vorerst 10 Titeln. Bernie Grundman hatte seinerzeit für die Neuauflagen Lackfolien sowohl mit 33 als auch 45rpm geschnitten – die 45rpm-Versionen wurden jedoch niemals veröffentlicht! Jedes Set von zwei LPs steckt in einem Stoughton Printing Klappcover mit von Hand aufgebrachtem Deckblatt, an der typischen Falzung erkennbar, und zeigt die originale Artwork incl. des Everest Records Markenzeichens. Beide LPs stecken zudem zu ihrem Schutz in einer Klarsichthülle. Anatole Fistoulari lernte den größten Teil seiner Technik und seines Repertoires von seinem Vater Gregor Fistoulari, einem Schüler von Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov und Anton Rubinstein, er baute eine umfangreiche Diskographie auf. Wie bei seinen Ballettmusik-Aufnahmen für DECCA liefert Fistoulari wieder eine lebendige Interpretation von Khachaturians berühmtem Ballettstück. Ist diese Einspielung gleichwertig mit der von Harry Pearson gefeierten Mercury - nein, sie ist besser! Hinzu kommen die erdbebengleiche Basswiedergabe und die umfangreichen Details - vor allem im räumlichen Hochtonbereich - und Sie haben eine überragende LP, die immer wieder begeistert und bei jedem Hören mehr Details präsentiert. Dezember 1942 in Molotov (Ural, Russland) statt, also mitten im 2. Weltkrieg! Khachaturian verstand es mit dieser Balletsuite „Gayne“, die folklorische Welt des Kaukausus einzufangen, mit einzigartigen Melodien, wunderbaren Harmonien und beeindruckenden Rhythmen.
