Sir Eugene Goosens Aufnahmen 1959 in der Walthamstow Assembly Hall in London. Beethoven hatte es mit seiner 6. Sinfonie bereits praktiziert und auch Hector Berlioz knüpfte an der neuen Form an, die „Symphonie Fantastique“ gilt als eines der bedeutendsten Werke der romantischen Musik und als Vorläufer der sinfonischen Dichtung. Die fünf Sätze sind voller Dramatik, durchzogen von dem Leitmotiv (idee fixe). Es gibt wohl kaum einen Klassikfreund, der die Thematik nicht kennt. Besonders der berühmte „Marsch zum Schafott“ oder der hier wunderbar dargestellte Walzer des zweiten Satzes „Der Ball“ sind grandiose Momente, die jeden Klassikfeund begeistern. Zweifellos ist dieses Werk von Berlioz bereits in jeder „erwachsenen“ Sammlung vertreten, Goosens Dirigat allerdings ist es auf jedem Fall wert, dazugefügt zu werden, es lohnt sich nicht nur aus klanglicher Sicht! Direkt vom 35mm Filmband gemastert von Bernie Grundman über seine röhrenbetriebene Schneidemaschine. ************************************************************************************************* Rezension: Der vergleichsweise geringe Erfolg, den Sergej Prokofiev mit seinen Symphonien zwei bis vier hatte, führte dazu, daß er die Gattung zunächst einmal ruhen ließ. Erst 1944, 15 Jahre nach der "Vierten", kehrte er zu ihr zurück – mit einem Meisterwerk der Orchestrierung, das so begeistert aufgenommen wurde, daß der Komponist sich gleich im Anschluß an die nächste Symphonie setzte. Eine "Symphonie über den menschlichen Geist" sollte die "Fünfte" sein; weitere Erläuterungen zum Programm gab ihr Schöpfer nicht. Sie sind aber auch nicht nötig: Das ganze Spektrum von Humor über Wut bis Trauer, von Zartheit bis Brutalität kommt darin vor. In vorliegender, in Everests revolutionärer 35mm-Technologie aufgezeichneten Einspielung wurde die Partitur nicht nur sehr nuanciert von Malcolm Sargent umgesetzt – auch die klangliche Seite ist von atemberaubender Detailtreue und Durchsichtigkeit, von der Dynamik gar nicht zu reden. Everest LPs through the early 1960s were recorded on 3-channel 35mm magnetic film recording equipment. 35mm magnetic film yielded greater fidelity and less noise than standard 1/4" recording tape. The Westrex Corporation built special equipment to Everest's specifications to accomplish these advantages. Fast forward to today: Classic Records by Analogue Productions is resurrecting this collection through an initial 10-title reissue series.
