Johan Julius Christian („Jean“) Sibelius wurde am 8. Dezember 1865 in Hämeenlinna geboten und starb am 20. September 1957 in Järvenpää bei Helsinki. Der finnische Komponist stand mit seinem Werk am Übergang von der Spätromantik zur Moderne. Das Sipelius Piano Trio mit Petteri Iivonen (Violine), Juho Pohjonen (Piano) und Samuli Lektionen (Cello) nahmen sich dem Werk „Korppoo Trio“ in D-Dur (JS 209) an. Als dieses Werk zum ersten Mal vom Sibelius Piano Trio in digitaler Form vorgelegt wurde, erhielten sie dafür sowohl einen Grammy, als auch diverse Nominierungen für International-Classical-Music-Awards. Nun liegt das Werk als analoge Pressung in 180-Gramm-Vinyl vor. Die LP dreht ihre Runden souverän in 45rpm. Yarlung Records legt zudem Wert auf das Qualitätssiegel Made in Germany. Die beiden Aufnahmeleiter Bob Attiyeh und Arian Jansen haben ganze Arbeit geleistet. Die Aufnahmen entstanden am 30. März 2016 im Samueli Theater im Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Costa Mesa, Kalifornien, USA. Das Microphone-Amplification-System wurde von Elliot Midwood installiert. Für die Aufnahme wurde ein ATR12-Analog-Tonband verwendet. Zum Einsatz kamen AKG C24-Mikrophone. Für das Mastering zeichnen Steve Hoffman und Bob Attiyeh verantwortlich. Der Sound Guru Bernie Grundman schließlich veredelte die Edition mit seinem Vinyl-Mastering und dem präzisen Lackschnitt. Eingeteilt ist die sauber gepresste Scheibe in „Allegro Moderato“, „Fantasia Andante Part 1“, Fantasia Andante Part 2“ und „Finale Vivace“. Die Musik ist voller Leidenschaft und Intensität. Die drei Musiker erzeugen einen dynamischen Klangkörper, der besonders beim Allegro Moderato zum Ausdruck kommt. Das Zusammenspiel von Violine und Klavier bei „Fantasia Part 1 und Part 2“ ist atemberaubend. Das Finale überzeugt durch harmonisch ineinanderfließende Melodiebögen, die an Lebendigkeit nicht zu toppen sind. Hier macht sich ohrenscheinlich auch die herausragende Klangqualität bemerkbar. Finale Vivace ********************************************************************************************* Rezension: Sibelius' Kammermusik ist vergleichsweise wenig bekannt, und wer den großen finnischen Nationalkomponisten nur von seiner Symphonik her kennt, wird ob des Überschwangs, der Lebensfreude hier sicherlich nicht wenig überrascht sein. Und schnell verstehen, warum sich das junge finnische Trio nach Sibelius benannt hat: Nicht zuletzt nämlich, um dessen fabelhaftes kammermusikalisches Frühwerk (der Komponist war 22) dem übermächtigen Schatten der Sinfonien zu entreißen. Das Ensemble spielt bekanntlich auch mit Begeisterung zeitgenössische, auch avantgardistische Werke (etliche aktuelle Komponisten haben ihm schon Werke gewidmet); hier aber kann man die Liebe zum Sujet in jeder Note fühlen. Sie ist im übrigen nachvollziehbar, denn das Werk ist ein echtes Schätzchen seiner Gattung. Insbesondere die charmant-verspielte "Fantasia" möchte man umgehend noch einmal hören! – Daß dies auch unter aufnahmetechnischem Aspekt ein Glanzlicht ist, muß bei diesem Label wohl eigentlich nicht mehr erwähnt werden, zumindest der wundervolle Klavierklang verdient es aber doch… (2021) ********************************************************************************************** ********************************************************************************************** Description Mastered by Steve Hoffman & Bob Attiyeh! Lacquers Cut by Bernie Grundman! When you hear this trio play Sibelius, you'll understand why the Sibelius family granted Petteri, Juho and Samuli use of the composer's name. Jean Sibelius' piano trios were important to him personally. He wrote them in his youth, during the summers he vacationed with his brother Christian and sister Linda on various islands in Houtskär, the Finnish archipelago off the southwest coast of Finland. Sibelius wrote Korppoo Trio on Korrpoo Island where the composer (violin), Linda (piano) and Christian (cello) played it on 'rainy days' at the family's summer house. - Bob Attiyeh, producer "Sibelius gave us his monumental Korppoo Trio in D Major (JS 209) in 1887. We can hear the magnificent mature Sibelius peeking out through this work. Sibelius wrote Korppoo Trio in three sophisticated and dramatic movements.... Korppoo opens with a good-humored celebration of the Beauty of Nature and includes a thoughtful Fugue in the development section which demonstrates his growing power as a composer. Next comes a Fantasia, improvisational and painterly in nature, with frequent tempo changes and mood swings, ending with passages of natural serenity that remind me of bird song. Sibelius reveals his fun sense of humor in the final Rondo, which he writes without allowing himself to be inhibited by traditions of the 'approved' classical tradition." - Juho Pohjonen Korppoo Trio is the most ambitious and expansive of the three Sibelius trios... coming in at 26 minutes, its fluent, melodic opening allegro interrupted on occasion by stabbing, rather Beethovenian assertions and even a clean-lined fugato at one point, though the overall form is classic in outline and clear as a bell. The second movement unfolds elaborate episodes that delve into Romantic pathos and fantasy, with striking use of high birdcalls and glassy harmonics in the violin (presumably to show off the young composer-violinist's prowess on his instrument). A vivace rondo finale dances gaily along, bringing the trio to an exhilarating conclusion....
