Die Musiker gestalten das letzte der drei Trios op. 9, das einerseits an die Wiener Klassik vor ihm (es gibt sogar etliche ausgesprochen mozarteske Momente) anknüpft, andererseits deutlich auf spätere Hauptwerke hinweist (schon durch die Verwendung der "Beethoven-Tonart" C-Moll), mit einer Lebendigkeit, als sei es gerade erst geschrieben worden. Wer die LP mit dem Panderecki- und dem Barraba-Trio besitzt, zwischen denen das Beethoven-Werk auf dem ursprünglichen Album plaziert war, darf jenes gerne mal reproduzieren; der Effekt ist erstaunlich! My listening room dimensions do not define the soundstage. I hear the space the musicians are occupying in the hall. Low-level information and detail are presented on a background alive with reverberant cues. I 'feel' the space. The LP, pressed by Pallas in Germany, is totally silent in replay. No clicks, no pops thru an entire side providing the foundation for the extreme transparency. The musicians play 'within themselves' combining discipline and technical mastery into a cohesive interpretation rich in tonal color, textures, and image specificity. Happy 250th Birthday Beethoven! Beethoven's Trios -- he wrote four in all -- are early works, but already in the C Minor work on this LP the tread of the dramatic master is apparent. Just the opening, a dark, menacing melody that shows up again in the great Opus 131 Quartet of many years later, tells us that. Cellist Antonio Lysy, Sohn des argentinischen Violinisten Alberto Lysy, welcher zu Lebzeiten mit Größen wie seinem Mentor Yehudi Menuhin, Benjamin Britten, Jaqueline DuPrez und Nadia Boulanger musizierte, präsentiert mit Bryan Pezzone am Klavier und Pablo Motta am Bass gemeinsam mit dem Capitol Ensemble Musik aus der Heimat des Vaters. Bereits mit seiner Live-Aufnahme aus den Solorepertoires für Cello von Johann Sebastian Bach, Luciano Berio, Hans Werner Henze und William Walton konnte der exzellente Musiker die Kritik mehr als nur überzeugen. Die ausgewählten Stücke lassen das Cello als Soloinstrument brillieren. Neben ruhigen ausdrucksstarken Passagen meistert Lysy temperamentvoll-virtuose und stürmische Abschnitte mit Verve. Die Kompositionen spiegeln die unterschiedlichen Einflüsse argentinischer Kultur wieder, welche die Komponisten verarbeitet haben. Angefangen bei den traditionellen musikalischen Einflüssen der Zeit vor der spanischen Herrschaft, der Kreolischen Musik bis hin zu neueren Strömungen wie dem Tango. Alberto Ginasteras "Rhapsody" aus "Pampeana" (Op. 21) sowie "Triste" sind - ähnlich wie bei Bartk, Kodly, Ravel und anderen Zeitgenossen - von der Folklore seiner Heimat beeinflusst und sollte damit Vorbild für weitere argentinische Komponisten werden. "Pampas" von Lalo Schifrin wurde für Lysy komponiert und brachte diesem seinen ersten Grammy ein. Jose Bragato arrangierte für Lysy "Le Grand Tango" und "Oblivion" komponiert von der Bandoneon- und Tango-Legende Astor Piazzolla. Freuen sie sich auf intensive, mitreißende, temperamentvolle Musik geprägt von der ausgesprochenen Musikalität der Instrumentalisten. ....... Und wer bislang nicht das Glück hatte, ihnen zu begegnen, holt sie sich nun einfach selbst ins Haus: Die Aufnahme von Bob Attiyeh ist nämlich an Natürlichkeit und Direktheit kaum zu übertreffen, und die Herren Steve Hoffman (Mastering) und Bernie Grundman (45 UPM-Vinylschnitt) gaben sich alle Mühe, die Qualität des Analogbandes auf LP zu übertragen! Steve Hoffman, der 2006 die CD-Version dieses Album gemastert hatte, wird auf High End-Shows bis heute darauf angesprochen – nicht selten mit einem Autogrammwunsch verbunden. Fraglos läßt sich ein Kammerensemble kaum realistischer abbilden, als es in dieser Aufnahme geschieht – bemerkenswert ist deren legendärer Ruf aber doch, schon aufgrund des Repertoires: Streichtrios des 20. Jahrhunderts, von Krzysztof Penderecki und dem Amerikaner Jason Barabba (der sein Trio für das Ensemble schrieb, das es hier aufnahm!) sind normalerweise nicht der Stoff, der auf Gerätevorführungen verkostet wird. Doch Serena McKinney (Violine), Katherine Kadarauch (Bratsche) und Arnold Choi (Cello) spielen diese Musik mit einer Verve, die jedwede Berührungsangst im Keim erstickt. Man versteht schnell, warum dieses Trio seit seiner Gründung reihenweise wichtige Musikpreise gewann – darunter den besonders angesehenen New Yorker "Concert Artists Guild Award", erstmals seit Jahrzehnten an ein Streichtrio vergeben. Eine der großartigsten Kammermusik-LPs der letzten gut 30 Jahre, endlich auf Vinyl – und mit Bernie Grundmans 45 UPM-Schnitt sicher nicht schlechter als die legendäre Silberscheibe…!
