Und die heißt in diesem Fall Warner. Dort sorgte man dafür, dass das 2007er Album perfekt produziert wurde, von einen Top-Mann, der u.a. schon Johnny Cash-Scheiben zu ungeahnter Popularität und letztendlich auf ein sehr hohes Produktionsniveau gehoben hatte: Rick Rubin! Er hat zusammen mit Mike Shinoda ein starkes Rockalbum geschmiedet, Linkin Park sind damit noch stärker als bisher zum Medienereignis geworden. Tatsächlich wurden die Arrangements raffinierter und ausgefeilter, wuchtig rollen sie ihre Gitarren- und Drum-Wände auf den Hörer nieder. Allerdings nie banal und brutal, sondern sie binden die kraftvollen Sets in ein ausgeklügeltes Gesamtkonzept ein. Dass dabei auch die poppige Ausrichtung bei älteren Fans ankommt, liegt wohl daran, dass sie ihre Lieblinge nun öfter ihm Radio hören. In his 24th year of recording, Tom Petty shows you can age gracefully in a medium known for its rampant ageism. ECHO finds Petty putting together a veiled confessional that refers indirectly to a recent separation from his wife. As always, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell (who helped out with production), Howie Epstein, and Ben Tench provide a solid musical bed for songs largely populated by female protagonists. "Free Girl Now" sounds an insistent message of liberation, "Lonesome" finds Petty using a forlorn twang to bid a heartfelt farewell to a lover who then goes on the road in search of adventure in "Swingin'" as harmonica and guitar steadily wail away. In dealing with his interpersonal roadblocks, Petty remains a sturdy optimist. He picks himself up off the floor amidst a flurry of Campbell's sitar-flavored leads during "Won't Last Long," and bounces back from taking it on the chin on "Billy The Kid," which Tench peppers with swirling Clavinet and organ. Wie alle anderen Alben der laufenden Serie wird das Album fast genau 50 Jahre nach dem Ersterscheinen veröffentlicht. Aoxomoxoa kommt auch als eine auf 10.000 Exemplare limitierte 12-Zoll-Picture Disc heraus. *********************************************************************************************** Rezension Mit neuester Studio-Technik (32 statt der bisherigen 16 Spuren!) und den Köpfen voller Acid schuf die Band 1969 ein Monument des psychedelischen Rock. Das trotz allem im amerikanischen Folk und Country verwurzelte Werk wurde mit allem an spacigen Effekten versetzt, was die neuen Geräte hergaben. Das hätte vollkommen schief gehen können, tat es aber nicht, was nicht zuletzt am exzellenten Songwriting lag – hier finden sich auch die ersten beiden Zeugnisse der fruchtbaren Koautorenschaft des Dead-Chefs Jerry Garcia mit dem inoffiziellen (da kein Instrument spielenden) Bandmitglieds Robert Hunter. Natürlich wirken die bald darauf folgenden Alben mit ihrer Rückkehr zum naturbelassenen Sound aus heutiger Sicht zeitloser, aber dies hier ist immer noch eines der wunderbarsten Dokumente jener Ära auf ihrem Höhepunkt. Der von Chris Bellman gemasterten Neuausgabe liegt die etwas “abgemilderte” Remix-Version zugrunde, die die Band 1971 selbst vornahm. (1969/2022) ********************************************************************************************** Vom unverwechselbaren Cover von Rick Griffin bis hin zu AOXOMOXOA war klar, dass das dritte Grateful Dead-Album ein seltsamer Trip war (wenn auch kein langer; nur zwei der acht Songs überschritten die 5-Minuten-Marke). Das 1969 erschienene Album wurde fernab der neugierigen Blicke der Mitarbeiter von Warner Bros. aufgenommen und zeigt die Band aus San Francisco auf dem epischen "What's Become Of The Baby" in ihrer experimentellsten Phase, obwohl das Album auch die traditionellen akustischen Klänge andeutet, die die Dead bald in dem folkigen "Dupree's Diamond Blues" erforschen sollten. Das Set markiert das Auftauchen des Texters Robert Hunter als Jerry Garcias wichtigster Songwriting-Partner, und ihre "St. Stephen" und "China Cat Sunflower" sollten zu festen Bestandteilen der Konzerte werden. Man kann zu Madonna stehen wie man will, es ist eine Tatsache, dass die heuer 48 Jahre alt werdende Popsängerin zu den bedeutendsten Stars der modernen Musikszene gehört und einige ihrer Platten zu Meilensteinen avancierten. So kann sich diese Frau sogar erlauben, ihre eigenen Vorstellungen zu verwirklichen, weshalb "Confessions On A Dance Floor" wieder ein richtiges Disko-Album wurde. Produziert von Stuart Price zeigt sich dieses Werk eher altmodisch, Madonna scheint sich auf der Tanzfläche wieder prächtig wohlzufühlen, Donna Summer oder Chic kommen sicher auch auf den DJ Player. In "Future Lovers" durfte sich auch ihr bisheriger Produzent Mirwais verewigen, pulsierende Beats zieren hier genauso wie bei allen anderen 11 Songs die Arrangements. HUNG UP - This is the first single off of the new album and is a huge hit in the clubs. The song has a sample from ABBA's song Gimme Gimme Gimme (which I have never heard) and has MADONNA singing about someone she is hung up on. The song has a very great groove and it's definitely the most commercial song on the album. With the chorus line "Every little thing that you say or do I'm HUNG UP, I'm hung up on you." and lines like "Ring , ring, ring goes the telephone, the lights are on but there's no one home" the song gets stuck in your mind and you find yourself singing these catchy lines. No Madonna song has as catchy lines since "INTO THE GROOVE" which had Madonna sing "At night I lock the doors and no one else can see". Very strong single that will keep the dance club crowd on there feet. ........................ GET TOGETHER - This is a great up- beat song (borrows a bass line from Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You) with a very laid back trance like feel to it. The song has Madonna singing to a person she really likes asking "Do you believe in love at first sight?" Even if it's an illusion she states she don't care. "Can we get Together? I really, I really want to be with you. Come on check it out with me, I hope you, I hope you feel the same way too." Put some head-phones on and close your eyes and the Great retro dance beat along with the trance feel take you to another world. ........................ SORRY - This is rumored to be one of the new singles from the album. Madonna sings "I don't want to hear, I don't want to know please don't say your SORRY." to someone she is probably never going to forgive. The songs chorus samples the bass line from The Jacksons' 1981 hit Can You Feel. Sure to be another huge club and commercial hit. ........................ FUTURE LOVERS - This is one of my favorite songs on the album. This song also has a retro vibe to it with another trance like feel. This song has a lot of stuff going on musically and it samples I feel Love by Donna Summer. The song has some spoken vocals for the first minute and a half, then it breaks out in to this awesome dance song. She sings "Give me evidence of it's brilliance" talking about love. This song is going to be HUGE in the clubs. ........................ I LOVE NEW YORK - Great dance song that has MADONNA telling us how much she loves NEW YORK and hinting towards George Bush and his home state. Singing, "If you don't like my attitude then you can just f off. Just go to Texas, isn't that where they golf." Very awesome dance song with a very punk rock feel to it. This is also rumored to be a single off of the new album. ........................ LET IT WILL BE - this is a song that has a raw feel to it with a funky house groove and a retro 80's feel to it. This song samples the string opening (played on a synth) from her own song PAPA DON'T PREACH. This song has MADONNA singing lines like "Now I can tell you about success, about fame, about the rise and the fall, of all the stars in the sky, Don't it make you smile? Let it will Be. Just let it be. Won't you let it be?" ........................ FORBIDDEN LOVE - This is one of the slowest dance songs on the album and one of the most beautiful. The song has computer generated, and vocoder style vocals and has another 80's feel to it. The song is the closest thing to a ballad on the album. MADONNA sings "Once upon a time there was a boy and there was a girl. Hearts that intertwined they lived in a different kind of world. Forbidden Love are we supposed to be together? Forbidden Love we seal are destiny forever." ........................ JUMP - This is one of my other favorite tracks on this album. This song has a great beat and classic MADONNA vocals. This is one song that will make the club crowd JUMP and remind anyone of classic MADONNA. Madonna sings " We learned our lesson from the start my sisters and me. The only thing you can depend on is your family. Life's gonna drop you down like the limbs of a tree. It sways, and it swings and it bends until it makes you see. Are you ready to jump? Get ready to jump. Don't ever look back oh baby. Yes I'm ready to jump. Just take my hand, get reay to... are you ready?" This would be a great single and in some countries is expected to be released as a single. ........................ HOW HIGH - This song has a great beat to it and is another song that has computer generated, and vocoder style vocals. This is a song that has lyrics (similar to "Drowned World/Substitute For Love) about Madonna analyzing and evaluating her fame and success. She sings "How HIGH are the stakes? How much fortune can you make? Should I carry on? Will it matter when I'm gone?" Another great song! ........................ ISAAC - This is another beautiful song on the album. Despite the early controversy this song has spawned, this is s song that has a very beautiful Jewish chant with strings and guitars that envelope you and take you on an emotional journey. This has some of the most beautiful lyrics MADONNA has ever wrote. She sings "Wrestle with your darkness. Angels call your name. Can you hear what they are saying? Will You ever be the same?" People may not like this song because of the spiritual vibe, the Jewish chant, and because it is different, since some people don't like things that are different. I love this song! ........................ PUSH ME - This is a great inspirational song that she probably wrote for her husband Guy. Very Uplifting beat that samples a slowed down section from her own hit "LIKE A PRAYER." Madonna sings "You PUSH ME to go the extra mile. You push me when it's difficult to smile. You push me a better version of myself. You push me only you and no one else. You push me see the other pont of view. You push me when there's nothing else to do. You push me when I think I know it all. You push me when I stumble and I fall." Der Titelsong wartet zwar nach einem Break noch mit schnellen Thrash auf. „Escape“ oder das schleppende „For Whom The Bell Tolls“ setzen allerdings voll und ganz auf runtergefahrenes Tempo. Der Härtegrad wird dabei aber immer oben gehalten. Der Refrain von „Escape“ ist die einzige Ausnahme. Viele sehen den Song gerne als Schwachpunkt der Platte. Hetfield selbst hat einst gesagt, dass es der erste Versuch der Band gewesen sei, mehr Radioairplay zu bekommen. Sei’s drum. Trotz poppigem Refrain (der ein ganz schöner Ohrwurm ist) hat der Song coole Riffs zu bieten. In den Strophen gibt sich Hetfield gewohnt angepisst. So soll es sein! METALLICA-Fans haben Stoff zum diskutieren Der zweite große Streitpunkt des Albums ist die (Halb-)Ballade „Fade To Black“. Die Blaupause für „One“ und „(Welcome Home) Sanitarium“ ist eine musikalische Meisterleistung, die zwischen leichter Melancholie und völliger Verzweiflung hin und her wandert. Wer keine Scheuklappen aufhat, wird mit dem Song seine helle Freude haben. Dass „Ride The Lightning“ musikalisch vielschichtiger als der Vorgänger daher kommt, ist auch keine Wunder. Cliff Burton und Kirk Hammett wurden erstmalig aktiv ins Songwriting eingebunden. Dafür kommen Ideen des gefeuerten Dave Mustaine nur noch bei zwei Songs zum Tragen. Neben dem Titelstück ist es das abschließende, sehr atmosphärische Instrumental „The Call Of Ktulu“. Das absolute Highlight der Platte ist allerdings „Creeping Death“. Mitgrölhymne und Riffmassaker in Personalunion, besticht der Song mit einem unfassbar coolem Mitteilteil und dem vielleicht besten Kirk-Hammett-Solo aller Zeiten. Die Produktion der Platte übernimmt Fleming Rasmussen, der später auch „Master Of Puppets“ veredelte. Der Däne zimmert METALLICA in den Sweet Silence Studios einen Sound, der das Debütalbum alt aussehen lässt. Klar, „Ride The Lightning“ klingt etwas weniger rotzig. Aber dafür ist alles aufgeräumter als zuvor. Die Instrumente sind alle klar voneinander zu unterscheiden. Vor allem die Gitarren matschen nicht mehr rum. Dadurch kommen die messerscharfen Riffs weitaus besser zur Geltung. Wenn ihr „Ride The Lightning“ noch nicht kennt, solltet ihr das schleunigst ändern. The blueprint for "One" and "(Welcome Home) Sanitarium" is a musical masterpiece that wanders between light melancholy and utter despair. If you do not have blinders, you will love the song. That "Ride The Lightning" musically more complex than its predecessor therefore comes, no wonder. Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett were actively involved in songwriting for the first time. For ideas from the fired Dave Mustaine come only two songs to fruition. In addition to the title track, it is the final, very atmospheric instrumental "The Call Of Ktulu". The absolute highlight of the record, however, is "Creeping Death". Mitgrölhymne and reef massacre in personal union, the song captivates with an incredibly cool Mitteilteil and perhaps the best Kirk Hammett solo ever. Fleming Rasmussen, who later also finished "Master Of Puppets", will be producing the record. The Dane prepares a sound for METALLICA at Sweet Silence Studios, which makes the debut album look old. Sure, "Ride The Lightning" sounds a little less snotty. But everything is tidier than before. The instruments are all clearly distinguishable from each other. Especially the guitars no longer rumble. This makes the razor-sharp riffs much better. If you do not know "Ride The Lightning" yet, you should change that as fast as possible. METALLICA were far from their commercial zenith in 1984. From an artistic point of view, however, the Four Horsemen had reached their absolute peak. Zwar waren die Rockikonen aus Los Angeles im Laufe ihrer fast 40-jährigen Karriere nie wirklich weg, aber sie waren lange nicht mehr »komplett«. 2022 sind sie es wieder: Anthony Kiedis, Flea und Chad Smith feiern die Rückkehr von Gitarrist John Frusciante und damit die Rückkehr zu alten Schwingungen. *********************************************************************************************** Red Hot Chili Peppers gönnten sich seit ihrem letzten Album „Getaway“ eine sechsjährige Pause und melden sich nun mit ihrem zwölften Album „Unlimited Love“ zurück. Das Besondere daran: John Frusciante ist wieder dabei! Der Gitarrist prägte die Band früher maßgeblich, verließ diese aber vor über zehn Jahren. Das wiederhergestellte alte, kultige Bandgefüge wird dabei noch komplettiert durch Rick Rubin, dem Mann hinter den erfolgreichsten RHCP-Alben, der - ebenfalls nach einer Pause - hier die Produktion übernahm. Trotz dem Anknüpfen an alte Zeiten geraten Red Hot Chili Peppers mit „Unlimited Love“ nicht zu sehr in den Sound-Strudel ihrer Klassiker „Blood Sugar Magic“ oder „Californication“, wenn auch typische RHCP-Vibes zu hören sind. Schon der Opener „Black Summer“ verweist auf ein vielversprechendes und facettenreiches Album. Die außergewöhnliche Band schafft es dann auch leicht, mit jedem der weiteren 16 Tracks zu begeistern. Hhervorgehoben sei hier nur das bluesige „Poster Child“ oder „One Way Traffic“, bei dem Anthony Kiedis gesanglich zur Höchstformen aufläuft. Red Hot Chili Peppers bieten mir ihrem neuem Album alles, was das Fanherz begehrt und beweisen mühelos, dass sie auch nach 40-jähriger Bandgeschichte immer noch großartig abliefern können. Das Doppelalbum kommt im Klappcover auf 150g-schwerem Vinyl ******************************************************************************************** Rezension Es gibt natürlich auch die klassischen Funk-Brecher, auf denen Flea seinen elastischen Bass hüpfen läßt und die Band an ihre formativen Jahre anknüpft. Doch ist der Anteil an Songs in vergleichsweise gemäßigtem Tempo bemerkenswert hoch, und das erweist sich nicht als Nachteil. Die Red Hot Chili Peppers befinden sich hier oft in bestem Jam Band-Modus, demonstrieren ihre Stärke als Ensemble und schlagen den Weg des gelassenen Grooves ein. In Würde altern, könnte man auch sagen. Bei erstklassigem Songmaterial übrigens. Es gibt auf diesem nun wieder vom alten Buddy Rick Rubin produzierten zwölften Album freilich auch einen eindeutigen Star, und das ist natürlich John Frusciante, nach zehn Jahren Auszeit nun wieder in den Schoß der Band zurückgekehrt. (2022) ************************************************************************************************* Antennen auf den göttlichen Kosmos Quasi über Nacht haben die Red Hot Chili Peppers im Februar eine neue Platte für 2022 angekündigt. »Unlimited Love« erscheint mehr als sechs Jahre nach dem Vorgängeralbum »The Getaway« und ist das nunmehr zwölfte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Funk- und Alternative-Rock-Ikonen. Außerdem ist es schon lange kein Geheimnis mehr, dass die Gruppe für die neuen Songs wieder mit ihrem alten Gefährten und ehemaligen Gitarristen John Frusciante arbeitete, der den RHCP-Sound maßgeblich geprägt hat und der 2019 nach mehr als zehn Jahren Pause wieder bei ihnen einstieg und damit Josh Klinghoffer ersetzte. Frusciantes letztes Album mit der Band war das Doppelalbum »Stadium Arcadium« im Jahr 2006. Produziert wurde »Unlimited Love« von Rick Rubin, der schon bei einigen ihrer Alben hinter den Reglern saß. Dennoch haben sie während der Aufnahme-Sessions nicht versucht den alten Sound zu reproduzieren, den man von RHCP-Klassikern wie »Blood Sugar Sex Magik« und »Californication« kenne. While some performances come off as perfunctory and there's nothing you could label outstanding, the soul is real and heartfelt.
